What to take before flying if you get sick?

I am not sure why, but sometimes I feel like tossing the cookies when I am on a turbulent plane. I can do 12 hour flights no problem, but if you throw in some turbulence, I feel like dieing, and not moving. I am taking a rather chaotic flight (3 segments) down to Costa Rica in 2 weeks, and I want to feel the best ... any advice as to what I can take?

Or should I just talk to the doc?

Dramamine works great because not only does it alleviate motion sickness, but also puts you to sleep within 30 minutes.

That's a real product? I thought that was a slang word.

Take benedryl. That shit will knock out an elephant.

As such, Diphenhydramine has also been used as an anxiolytic because of this side effect. It is also a potent anticholinergic agent
Basically it shuts down your nervous system. It's hard to think, stay awake, concentrate, and you couldn't throw up if you tried.

Try some "homopathic" remedies... 🙄

this is the one time having gay sex isn't the answer

I like the "behind-the-ear" patch for motion-sickness.

I've never used it for flying, but when I used to go deep sea fishing, I always used them if it was supposed to be rough on the water. I find them to be more effective than dramamine or the ginger-based remedies...although if you're prone to motion-sickness, the many ginger-based drinks can help to calm a "nervous stomach," even when using one of the medications.
IF you go with the patch, put it on the night before you get on the plane. If you go with dramamine pills, start taking them the night before you get on the plane.
Getting it started in your system before you need it is a good thing...and makes whichever method far more effective.

You could try the less-drowsy formula Dramamine made with meclizine instead of dimenhydrinate. It probably will still make you drowsy, though.

i confirm that this will make you less drowsy. it is effective though. i can't imagine how drowsy the regular version is.

i did find that subsequent uses didn't make me as drowsy so you might want to try it once a few weeks before your flight.

Be careful with this. Things like benedryl or "dramamine" that dull your nervous system make you stupid. Driving is a bit more dangerous, it's easier to lose things, forget where you're supposed to be at what time, forget instruction, and you might seem like a heatbag in the airport.

There's usually a warning on the label that will say something about not using heavy machinery (cars) while taking that medication. That's fine, but you also don't want to look impaired when the airport schutzstaffel pull you into a quiet room and start interrogating you.
"So tell us, Boomer, why are your pupils so small? Does the light in this room bother you? WHERE IS THE BOMB? TELL US NOW OR YOU DIE!"

Like I said, I don't need them for flying...never have, and I've been on some "challenging" rides over the years. Helicopters seemed to be the worst for "excessive and unexpected movement," especially when heading into a hot LZ. Of course, your adrenaline is already going full-throttle, maybe that helps keep things in check...
I've used this technique for nearly 40 years when heading out to fish...or to work on off-shore jobs. I've never had the slightest bit of trouble with them making me stupid...or maybe I'm already stupid enough that they never managed to break the "stupid threshold." 😛

arg this would drive me nuts. I hate the feeling of things lightly squeezing my wrists or my ankles.

Putting a snug rope around a horse is how they get the horse to jump around and kick for rodeos 😉

You didn't protest the handcuffs last week when you visited Oldsmoboat's basement.
