What to do tonight? After 7:30PM in Los Angeles...

I'm getting tired of the "movie and dinner" deal. Is there anyone who knows the LA area who can think of something fun/creative/interesting for a couple to do tonight after 7:30pm? Preferably not too pricey... I wanted to go to the Santa Monica Pier and check out the rides, but I've heard a lot of gangs hang out there at night. The only "walk around" places I know of are the 3rd Street Promenade and Universal City Walk... are there any relaxed, kick-back, lounge-y type clubs or places to go? Any comedy clubs that are open, etc.? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you. 🙂

Peace,
Dezign

We-Ho...

Laid back bars:

The Well on Argyle and Sunset
Daddy's Bar and Lounge 1610 N. Vine St.
Goodluck Bar in Los Feliz on Hillhurst near where Sunset and Hollywood meet
Dresden in Los Feliz on Hillhurst near Franklin
Yankee Doodles in Santa Monica on Promenade (Cool place to play some pool.)
Ques on Barrington and Wilshire

Comedy clubs:

The Comedy Store
The Laugh Factory

Both on Sunset Strip

Also, the Santa Monica Pier isn't too riddled with gangs. Mostly high school kids. It's not really worth going anyway.

I'm 22, he's 23.

Pool is good. 🙂 I haven't played since hitting up The Union back at the University of Michigan, though. Hmm. I'm in the mood for comedy... let's see if "The Comedy Store" or "The Laugh Factory" have websites. Thanks for the advice about the SM Pier, pulse8.

Peace,

I go to the Santa Monica Pier all the time at night and I NEVER see gang members. It's pretty mellow.

Other Good Bars:

Tiki Ti on Sunset / Hollywood in Los Feliz (my fav. bar!)
Renee's on 5th and Wilshire in Santa Monica
Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach (lots of good bars..the Fishack is GREAT and a lot more mellow than the other bars)

Other good walkaround places:

Block @ Orange
Irvine Spectrum
The Grove on 3rd and Fairfax I believe (My new favorite place! It's so cool!)

isn't mulholland drive the one that winds up around the hills near the hollywood sign? probably nice to sit there

I've never heard of "Block @ Orange" or "Irvine Spectrum." What are they, exactly?

"The Grove on 3rd and Fairfax I believe (My new favorite place! It's so cool!)" Is it like a shopping center? Do you know how late it's open? Thanks. 🙂

I checked out The Comedy Store & The Laugh Factory, and they have pretty generic shows on Wednesday nights... nothing too special. I'd like to go on the weekend, though... the guy who does the voice of Roger Rabbit performs then, and I've heard he's fabulous.

Peace,

Block @ Orange and the Irvine Spectrum are just big malls. Not worth the drive unless you have a reason to be that far south, IMO.

The Grove is a mall, but it's linked to the farmer's market, too so it's a pretty good place to go. Most of the stores are probably open until 9 or 10PM.

The Grove it is. 🙂 How big is it? Is there a quick, easy way to get there from Culver City?

From culver city, take the 10 to fairfax, go north to 3rd. You can't miss it. It's fricking huge.

Also, definitely check out Charles Fleischer (Roger Rabbit) at whatever comedy club he's at. OMFG he's funny.

Depending on where in Culver City you are, it may be more worth it to just take Venice to Fairfax and go north and avoid the highway.

It's on Fairfax and 3rd.

Block @ Orange is pretty hectic (its seizure hectic on the weekends). It's for the younger crowd.. lots of stores, outdoors mall/plaza. Lots of places to eat, and a nice, but more importantly cheap ($6.50 student movie ticket) AMC 30 movie theatre.

Irvine Spectrum is nother outdoors mall/plaza. Not much to do there unless you really plan on shopping. It's pretty expensive.. but the Edwards Theatre is pretty nice.

South Coast Plaza. If you plan on fine dining and shopping. I feel like a poor man there. 😛 I always think they are staring at me, thinking I'm dressed poorly or something. Hehe.

Downtown Disney. Eh, name says it all. It's alright.. nothing spectacular but not bad.

City of Industry Speedzone. Go Karts, Mini Golf, arcade, etc.
Ditto for Palace Park in Irvine.

Oops, can't forget Hollywood and Highland.
Also there's the Arclight Cinemas on Sunset (at the Cineramadome). Definitely worth seeing at least one movie there.

Other neat places to hang out if you're in the area are the Bourgeois Pig coffee shop, Restaurant Vermont / Bar Vermont, or the Derby.

go to the bar on motor by palms, have some drinks and shoot some pool. 🙂

dublin on sunset has always been one of my favorite chill spots.

edit: you live in culver city and you're complaining about gangs at the santa monica pier? LMAO....

Another one that hasn't been mentioned is Old Town Pasadena. It's usually busy every night and its a nice place to walk up and down. Good atmosphere.

Looks like I'll have plenty to do not only tonight, but for the next week or so. 🙂 Thanks, everyone.

I think we'll check out The Grove tonight... Go karting (why do they call it that anyway?) would be GREAT, but I think it might close a little too early.

Do you have to pay to go to downtown Disney? What's at Hollywood and Highland? I went to Arclight Cinemas with my company last week for the "Carrie" made-for-tv premiere... it's a gorgeous theatre and great location, but it normally costs $15 (!!!) or so for a ticket. $15 to see a friggin movie? Are you kidding me??! I remember when it used to be $2.75. *sigh* *feeling old*

I've heard Old Town Pasadena is beautiful. A bit of a drive, so I might save that for another day.

Are there gangs in Culver City? I live kinda on the edge of Venice/Santa Monica/Culver City... but Los Angeles is still the formal city. Zip code 90066.

Peace,
Dezign
