i forget what it's called, but i think it's on palms & woodbine. there's a playground w/ basketball courts over there too, for the guys to goof around on when they're nice and drunk. 🙂

EDIT: it's not that impressive, but the location is great. btw, my old zipcode was 90034. nearby the KFC.

I think we'll check out The Grove tonight... Go karting (why do they call it that anyway?) would be GREAT, but I think it might close a little too early.

Do you have to pay to go to downtown Disney? What's at Hollywood and Highland? I went to Arclight Cinemas with my company last week for the "Carrie" made-for-tv premiere... it's a gorgeous theatre and great location, but it normally costs $15 (!!!) or so for a ticket. $15 to see a friggin movie? Are you kidding me??! I remember when it used to be $2.75. *sigh* *feeling old*

I've heard Old Town Pasadena is beautiful. A bit of a drive, so I might save that for another day.

Are there gangs in Culver City? I live kinda on the edge of Venice/Santa Monica/Culver City... but Los Angeles is still the formal city. Zip code 90066.

Peace,
Dezign

Old Town Pasadena is beautiful? Maybe I'm just in the wrong area cuz all I see are a bunch of shops and some theatres, but good restaurants are there.

The Grove is a mall, but it's linked to the farmer's market, too so it's a pretty good place to go. Most of the stores are probably open until 9 or 10PM.

Block and Spectrum aren't exactly malls. When I think of malls, something like the Costa Mesa Plaza comes to mind with stores like Robinson's, Mervyn's, JCPenney, etc. There are plenty things to do at the Spectrum. There's an Improv, plenty of bars and clubs, restaurants, and street entertainment.

You live two minutes away from me. I live by Venice & Inglewood, a few blocks from the Taco Bell. 😀

Peace,

EDIT: So yes, definitely going to The Grove tonight. And I'm printing this thread at the end of the day for future reference. 🙂

I say drive to Riverside, then realize how lucky you are to live in a busy town of new wonders to discover around every corrner.

Hey amnesiac,

I was debating this question too. You been on 3rd street on a Wednesday? Is it dead or is it mildly busy tonight?

It's a large area with a bunch of shops. It's a mall. 🙂

Anyway, the Dresden is on Vermont and not Hillhurst. I always get those two confused! Anyway, as for there being a lot of gangs in Culver City, there aren't. People seem to think LA is all like Boyz in the Hood. Well, it's not. 😛

There are certain places I won't go at night, but Culver City surely isn't one of them. 😉 The only questionable place I've been at night is to the Krispy Kreme on Crenshaw, just south of the 10. Even after being there it wasn't too bad. I believe that's just near the border into south central, but we never really feared for our lives or anything. You should be completely safe going just about anywhere as long as you use some common sense. 🙂

If you're coming from Venice and Inglewood, then you could probably take the 10. I used to work right around there off of Redwood and Washington Blvd. Washington is a great road to get to certain places because it goes diagonally north towards Hollywood and it's not very crowded.

hey i live right across the street from the mcdonald's on venice (are we thinking of the same one????)

anyways, me and my friends always go to 3rd street. just because it's close by and there's cool stores and cool street acts. i could watch the lady with the bagpipes or the lady who thinks she's an opera singer all night. hehe jk.

it really is fun though, and sometimes you can catch a movie star there too. i've seen the dad from american pie and sugar ray leonard there!

the santa monica pier is pretty harmless, might as well stop by there if you go to 3rd street. there are no gangs but the rides suck and cost too much. there is one of those old fashioned photo booths there tho!

i've been to old town pasadena. it's just a boring version of 3rd street. if you are into hanging out at other places like malls then there's century city, it's just an open air mall. another fun place to hang out is venice beach. it's like a whole strip of stores on the boardwalk and you can rent bikes and stuff.

Just trying to see what else we did during my time at UCLA... Perhaps Universal CityWalk, although you may need to pay for parking. You could also go to Hollywood & Highland where they hold the Oscar ceremonies. I went with my aunt and her family a day or two after the ceremony. There were other attractions including going to a Ripley's Believe or Not museum.

About the gangs-I hear that there might be problems in Venice and in Mar Vista, but I haven't heard anything significant recently. 90066, eh? I had an interview in the same zip code and the surrounding area didn't look all that great (on Venice Blvd. near Centinela) although going a few blocks up from the office, the area looked decent.

Here's a link for the Hollywood and Highland area

I used to live near there also. I grew up on Stewart Ave which runs right next to Paco's Tacos. I still visit out there often, my uncle lives 2 blocks from Venice High.

3rd street promanade is a good place. I live 3 blocks from there (4th and pico) and is pretty empty during weekdays nights. The pier is pretty lame. If you have never been there then is worth checking it out. Old town pasadena is not really worth it. On weekends go to Venice beach during the day...you see all kinds of people.

Tiki Ti on Sunset / Hollywood in Los Feliz (my fav. bar!)
Renee's on 5th and Wilshire in Santa Monica

The Well on Argyle and Sunset
Daddy's Bar and Lounge 1610 N. Vine St.
Goodluck Bar in Los Feliz on Hillhurst near where Sunset and Hollywood meet
Dresden in Los Feliz on Hillhurst near Franklin

hey amnesiac, where's Tiki Ti and Goodluck Bar in comparison to Rudy Barbershop? (I went there, I like that place, cool place, cool ppl, so-so price for a pretty good quality cut, hell to find parking though)

and how much roughly for each drink in these bar?

also, have you guys checked out Little Osaka? (like, the other Japan Town) it got very nice resturants and I think there's a bar there too.

lol, i used to live next to that KFC too. the one next to bob's market, right?

heh...this thread is funny. Didn't know there were so many local people. I was just on the Promenade today....had to make a quick return at the mall and then me and a buddy walked to Fat Burger since you can print a coupon for a free...........fat burger! 🙂 Anyway, I go to SMC and hit the gym at 24 Hour Fitness almost 6 days a week. w00t

Oh, and I love the Gas Light on Wilshire 🙂 . Also, Westwood is pretty cool. Madison's...Malonie's.....blonde UCLA sorority girls.... 😉

Also...as for the gang thing you mentioned a couple times...I dunno...what's your definition of a gang member? A latino? A persian? 😉 This past summer me and my girlfriend went down to the pier around midnight (and like others have said, too expensive and really quite boring), but you can go down to the beach, bring some blankets, and just kick it at night. It's awesome. Make sure to smoke some weed in the car beforehand 😉

90025 checking in...

5 years and I've only been to the pier like twice, nothing great there. I don't know about gangs but I have heard about random shootings here and there. I like to look from afar...

Some of the bars around here are cool. James Beach in Venice. El Dorado in Brentwood.

Have you guys ever seen in the movies where people park and lay on the cars and watch airplanes fly really close over them? Is there a place to do that at LAX?

You do not wanna know what I pay for a one bedroom just north of Wilshire, 14 blocks from the beach :disgust:

(has wood floors though 😀 )

There used to be Sandpiper, between Vista Del Mar and Pershing but you weren't supposed to park there and cops did patrol it. They finally just closed off the street. That was prolly the best place.
