what to do if someone hit you at work? (punch you in the face)

easy call the cops and talk to his supervisor.

yes hitting back would feel good but no reason for you to lose your job as well as the other guy.

Talk to the supervisor before the authorities. If the company sees grounds for you to sue them on, they may offer you a settlement before you even throw a fit, and they'll take care of the authorities for the dumbass. If nothing comes of that, call the cops and inform the company of your actions.

You left out:
  • "Bashing their head against a block wall until their head is mush, to defend yourself, then sue their fvcking ass off after filing police report."

Talk to a manager and get his personnel file permanently updated with the assault info, then call the police. I've been violently assaulted at work.

It's actually not a bad idea to think about such things and to get informed as to your company's policies on them, workplace violence isn't nearly as rare as you would think.

I keep hoping that will happen... joys of working civil... I know they'd settle really quick...

Wouldn't punching back be considered self defense?

Not unless you can prove that you were back in a corner with no escape and you felt like your life was in danger. I've seen this, too. A friend of mine owns and runs his own security company that contracts to the second biggest mall in Oregon. Even if you're a security guard, you have to basically have no other option but to strike back - and strike only enough to be able to escape. If you beat him into submission or kill him, in this case, it ain't self defense.

posting in here is definitely not the first thing I'd do. j/k

but seriously, if you have witness, go all out to either report to superior or the police. Of course reporting to the superior is always the better thing to do because bosses don't like to blow the situation out of porportion (spelling?).

That's really something weird to wonder out of a blue. You have any reason for wondering what would happen if someone hit you in the work place? *hint hint*

hey nik is back.. awsome... when did you came back? why did you leave? i miss your flames... 🙂

All of the above, in the order of:

Punch (in self-defense)
Talk to supervisor (which leads to...)
Calling the cops
and finally
Check up at the hospital

Unless he really decked you, a punch to the face likely won't require an immediate "life-threatening" medical reaction. A broken/bloody nose and a good shiner on the eye perhaps, but all the better to settle the lawsuit with. 😀

Yes it would ! I'd be so shocked I'd have a heart attack, people at my job bring me coffee they don't hit me! :Q

Why did they do it?
Was it something I stated to them that deserve a punch?

If they punch just for the hell of it I would speak to their supervisor.

If medical attention was necessary - I would also notify 911.

If none of the above work - then it's time to punch back! 🙂
