What to buy to keep my small room cool in the summer?

AC doesn't reach my room so it appears that I'll have to buy something separate. I am looking for something that is quiet as I can't sleep with too much noise and cheap (under $50). Any recommendations from places like Walmart or Bed Bath & Beyond?

The problem is the under $50 requirement. Outside of a fan, you're looking at DIY solutions then.

Either get a fan to blow cold into your space or put a fan in the window and leave it open until whoever pays for AC gets pissy, then tell them to fix their shit.

5" flex tube from ac to your room. Maybe add a booster fan. For booster fan: Loud, high output or cheap. Pick two. 😛

I would say a window AC unit but the OP budget of $50 won't cut it.

A window fan that blow ice in a bucket in front of the fan?

You're not going to find anything that actually "cools" for $50... Maybe a used window AC unit.

lots of bags of ice and maybe a fan. will run > $50 per summer, but with low entry cost. will be quiet (esp without fan), will require a wide shallow or metal pan. May have limited cooling duration and/or performance.

Pick one of these options:

Does this actually work?

Yes it works to some extent. I did something similar freezing water in two one gallon water containers and placed them in back of a box fan. I also kept a wet towel clipped to the front of the fan for extra cooling. Worked for a day or two at night during the usual Vegas hot summer while waiting for the AC to be replaced.

Why hassle with all those where you constantly have to maintain them. Spend a little more and get a Kenmore 87050 5000 BTU (or equivalent) window unit for as little as $90.

Sears

Or try craigslist here is new Kenmore 87050 for $35 as an example.
