I am shopping for a three or so year old mid size sedan. I was pretty much set on 1999/2000 Maxima, but then also started considering LS. LS has pretty decent reviews and definitely offers more luxury. Also, used, it is same or even cheaper than Maxima. However, Maxima has better than average reliability, while LS has just average. But I do feel that LS is a better deal for the money.

Exactly, Quality is NOT Job 1 at Ford. Go with any other alternative.Originally posted by: toant103

Tools? Do your homework!!
Numerous recalls call into question the future of Focus
The 2000 Focus has been recalled 10 times, once more than the 1980 Citation, one of the problem-plagued General Motors X-body cars that highlighted the quality gap between domestic and Japanese auto manufacturers.
More recalls may be yet to come. NHTSA has five open investigations into possible safety defects on the 2000-2002 Focus, though Ford believes the most recent recalls will resolve two of them. A NHTSA spokeswoman said that has not been determined.
Lincoln LS 17" Wheel Safety Recall
According to the recall memo, some of the affected vehicles contain chrome wheels that were not heat treated properly during the manufacturing process. Chrome wheels that are not heat-treated may crack at the wheel hub lug-nut holes and may experience a loss of lug-nut torque or lose the wheel entirely.
Lose the wheel entirely? Nah, doesn't sound like a potential problem to me.![]()
Ford makes their own wheels. Monroe, Michigan stamping plant (now Visteon). I used to work there.what does a mistake from the company ford buys thier rims from have to do with the entire car...im asssuming ford doesnt manufacture their own rims

I love how these Ford bashers come in and the one argument they constantly put up is the Focus. Yes, the 2k Focus has problems, doesn't mean the whole line of vehicles does. I've owned (between my wife and I) 7 Fords and have had one issue. My wife drives a '01 Focus right now and had one recall for some bolt that wasn't torqued properly.

Thank you. Like maybe 1/10 Ford bashers have actually owned a Ford. The rest are bandwagon Honda fanbois with nothing else to say

First off, it's bunker, not Bender. Secondly, it was in the steering column, not the front suspension.Oh, and Bender, that little bolt that wasn't torqued properly can cause separation of the ball joint in the front suspension. It isn't just "some bolt."
A couple of *possible* reasons I came up with:Originally posted by: WinkOsmosis
Can anyone explain why only the V6 is available with the manual? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
