Food for thought:
if you're young and tattooed, the rest of the populace sees you as a stupid, ugly, unappealing rebel.

Okay, so that's exaggerating - read the article here.

From a Harris poll:
"Only 16 percent of Americans across all ages have a tattoo, compared with 36 percent of those 25 to 29."

"...people who don't have tattoos think that people with tattoos are less attractive (42 percent), less sexy (36 percent), less intelligent (31 percent), and more rebellious (57 percent)."

Personally - I have no tattoos and do not find them particularly appealing on others. I certainly don't think the current crop of tattooees are rebellious, rather that they are more lemming-like. More like "everyone else has a tattoo, so I will too." I don't think they're less intelligent, just maybe a little short-sighted. A "cool" tattoo when you're 18 can turn into an employment liability at 25 and a downright ugly sight at 60.

Very old thread reopened by new member. There are several more current threads about tattooing.

I don't have any, but I find them very appealing if done right.

Nothing beats a cute little one like Jennifer Aniston's (sp?) on Friends. I feel the same way about belly-button peircings on women - that's frickin' hawt.

Meh, I don't think about people with tattoos in any of those ways. It all depends on the tattoo but I think some of them are pretty damn cool. I don't have any myself but I may get one someday if I ever get around to designing one.

I'm 23, and I've always looked at people with tatoos as not having enough productive to do at some point in their lives. I know that's likely not the case, but that's my first reaction.

my cousin is inked up pretty good .. although he's the drummer for a touring rock band. i personally don't care for them too much. i'm one of the few members of my family who doesn't have one.

If you have a little one on your shoulder or in a spot that really only shows up when you are wearing a bikini or swim trunks it's not really that big of a deal.

But I think that having them in exposed areas it pretty much kills your chances of landing any sort of corporate/office position.

It's just really what you plan to do with your life. If you have zero intentions of ever working for the man in an office, more power to you.

i'm thinking 99% of the user base here is sans tattoos... i doubt they would find much favour within the hallowed halls of ATOT. another wild guess.

I like Dr. House's response to the tattoo last night. To me it's just a sign of how far someone is willing to go to feel "in". Unless it's a tribute to a dead child, sibling, best fried whatever, it's just a sad attempt to be "cool". ESPECIALLY all the really lame tribal tattoos. It's unattractive to me because it indicates to me that you are a sheep.

Can't stand them. They look ugly. And women with your lower back tatoos...wait till your stuff start saggin' 😀

gotta admit, they make even the skinniest wimpiest person look somewhat intimidating, especially when they got the tattoo on the side of their neck.

I agree that it depends on the person and the tatoo.

I don't mind the small tatoos on the ankle, breast, or "abdomen" 😉.

One of my wife's friends got a T-Shaped "scrolly" one on the small of her back. It looks good on her. 😉

One of my buddies has barbed wire tattooed around his upper arm....but he has the build to make it look right.... if I were to do that...lol

The people I know who have gotten tattos fall into two categories.

(1) People who have multiple/large/highly visible tattoos and want to show them off to the world. In my experience, all of the people I have met in this category were some combination of these: (a) dirt poor, (b) no ambition, (c) skany hos, (d) in and out of prison, and/or (e) raging alcoholics.

Being in this category certainly doesn't mean you are necessarilly less intelligent or more rebellious. But certainly I'd say most in this category are less attractive and less sexy. There just isn't anything attractive about a tattooed woman with missing teeth, dirty ripped clothes, and scrubbing bathroom floors for a living.

(2) People who have a small discrete tattoo or two in a place that no one really sees.

This category is often attractive, sexy, intelligent, and lemming (ie not rebellious). Thus I disagree with every point of that poll for this category. However, I just don't see the reason to do this. If no one sees it, why get it? The only explanation I've ever gotten from them is that basically all their friends did it too. Yep that is so rebellious.

I agree with that.

Nothing wrong with a small tattoo, tastefully done, especially when it can be hidden under regular clothing when desired 😛

Funny pic 😉 That being said, if you hide it, why do it?

That's like a woman getting a boob job, then wearing heavy sweaters for the rest of her life.
