What the hell happened to good ol' ice cream flavours?

That only works if you generalize every frozen treat as "ice cream." Cream is right in the name, so if there isn't any cream in it, it technically isn't "ice cream."
This.
If it's just water and fruit or whatever, then it's a sorbet.
The base is water and not cream.

If the base is cream, then it's ice cream (duh).

I do the same thing. It took me a while to figure out how to do strawberry properly, but it's easy enough to do.

For those that are interested: berries are mostly water which turns to ice when frozen (I know, big shock). But ice is really gritty and ruins the smooth texture I wanted. The trick was to add some sugar to the berry puree and heat it for a bit on low heat before you add it to the base mixture. This removes a lot of the water and gives you much smoother ice cream.

Homade strawberry is the only strawberry ice cream I like

Frozen chunks of banana + vanilla + cinnamon + vitamix > ice cream

-KeithP

Haven't done exactly that, but I used to freeze very ripe, peeled whole bananas and run them through a Champion juicer (with screen covered) with either fresh picked licorice grass, mint, or sometimes frozen mangoes or strawberries.

Not sure what is what like out of a vitamix, but am assuming it was similar to what I made, which has the most amazing texture and just right amount of sweetness.

I still love coffee ice cream and a couple other flavors, but so many have over the top sweetness, or texture ADD.

Not going to bother addressing OP because it was already done.

Lemon, apple, hazelnut are classic flavours? Can't get REAL ice cream except in Italy? What the hell are you talking about OP?

Just because you don't have experiences with it, it doesn't mean that it's not true or it doesn't exist. Italy was just an example. I had a great ice cream in Austria, Germany, France, Spain or Croatia. Just the American/Canadian standards are not as standard as one might think.

The thread title combined with the OP still cracks me up.

Eh?

I certainly feel the OP's pain...I, for one, miss the good old days when you could get Brontosaurus Blast at any corner ice cream parlor...😛

Used to make hand cranked Vanilla at the Uncles farm on occasions, fresh milk, we'd take turns cranking it over time and someone would have to pour the rock salt on the outside now and then to keep the ice melted.

That was the real stuff 🙂

I don't eat ice cream anymore, but when I was a kid chocolate malted crunch from a store in California called Thrifty was pretty damn good!

My family did that too. Real cream from the local dairy too! This was in Nort Dakota.

I like red bean ice cream. I tried it when I was in Thailand and Korea. Red beans and vanilla ice cream

Do you guys like?
