They don't; they just make an educated guess and take a big sample size. Sometimes they guess wrong, and if they do, they're thrown back out on the street.

They make clones of the girls then hyper-accelerate their growth. After the fully grown clones are evaluated for athleticism they are then consumed for food.

The drive to attain perfect gymnasts borders on inhumane. There are talks of sexual abuse, stunted growth, and thousands of broken girls. One girl couldn't even menstruate properly until she was 20. While what you see on TV is beautiful, there are thousands of girls that were thrown away and had their childhoods stolen from them for each one that you see.

Just for clarification -- the article you linked to was mainly talking about gymnasts in the US and not China.

This shit happens everywhere, including the US. Don't think there aren't any US parents out there that don't push their kid for over-achievement and pride.

Pushing your kids is one thing. Turning them over to the government so you can live a more comfortable life is quite another.

don't worry..plenty more kids where those came from.

Actually there isn't. China has a law that a family can only have 1 child.

it's not forced by the family and funded all by the government (basically forced)

rich families can have more by just paying a fine

In a nation of 1 billion + and so few opportunities, they'll take what they can get to be somebody. You and yours would too, trust me on that one.

During the women's individual final, they mentioned that Nastia Liukin's father had said "they wouldn't accept second. Only first is good enough." The quote really made it sound as though if Liukin had lost, she would have been disowned, and potentially killed. So it's clear that the drive to push young girls in gymnastics knows no nation. Quite frankly, it's absurd.

that's because in his mind's eye, nastia deserves nothing less than a gold. They wouldn't accept second because he thinks that she deserves so much more. That's how fathers/parents think.

At least the US government doesn't scout out kids and put them into programs where they have to live and breathe their sports everyday (and parents are just going along with the program)
