What was required to get this? I am using Chrome on Win7 64 bit with the latest versions of all of the Adobe software and I am running Microsoft Security Essentials. I did see the Google warning and stopped browsing the site. If I would of visited the site before Google updated the bad site database or ignored the warning what would of happened?

This whole thing has me a bit freaked out about computer security, it could of just as easily been about any other site on the web, that I or my wife goes to.

Wow watch that post count buddy before ya know it in 10-25 years ya might be above 60.

The best thing to do is make sure you are using the latest browser what ever it may be and your OS are up to date. Keep all your software including drivers, printer software, anything Adobe, java (not your coffee) office suite actually all your software up to date. Use a good anti virus and firewall (hardware preferred) NAT, Malewarebytes, Spyware Blocker (I use) Spybot Search and Destroy (I use).

The Secunia that was posted ^ there is a good place to start also. Actually it works great and provides links to any software you need to update

Once you have all this in place remember to use it. I know several people who I have updated their computers and three months later calling me up bitching because they caught a virus or some dumb shit thing. I always ask "Well have you kept it updated like I wrote down on your bill and verbally and physically showed you how to do?".

"Well no" is the reply I get 99% of the time. 😱

Infection probably but it never hurts to run a virus scan in safe mode with system restore off.

Well, I use Chromium on Mac and got a warning about the unsafe site. Proceeded anyways, but not Windows = no infect.

<3 non-win32 OS.

damn, so thats where that shit came from? what a pain in the ass that garbage was, wouldn't let me run ANYTHING with it running

i think its funny how many people talk about IE here. It seems all the IE users just came out of the hiding. Usually it's users bashing the crap out of Firefox and talking about Opera and Chrome being supreme. Once in a while you see people discussing FF and greasemonkey, but rarely in browser wars as it seems the Chrome fanbois shut them up. Yet the screenshots you see here show a good # of FF users and IE users. Interesting 😀

It has to do with psychology of language acquisition and linguistics of English. There's similar stuff out there regarding how deaf people adapt to English compared to native non-deaf speakers. Long neverending story short, it's how the brain works when processing language.

lol wut? 😵

It's really long and controversial, no point posting such a topic on ATOT where it's probably not even read.

If you want to jump straight into documented examples and studies, start off with google searching on 'metalinguistic awareness' and add 'deaf' to the start if you want to compare. The reason why deafs are often compared for studies is because they have resided in the world without use of hearing.

For this reason scientists have long been interested in how the language acquisition works, often discovering it related to neuroscience/the brain. In relation to this topic.. this is ultimately to why tyler811 processed the 64 hp as ghz while Kev and gorobei thought of it as something else.

Anyways, sorry for derailing further. This is way off from the trojan stuff D:.

Oh, that's what you were talking about. I thought you replied in the wrong thread. ^_^

btw, anyone else notice that Anand has been relegated to "senior member?" looks like his Boss title didn't carry over with VB.

Google has completed its review of AT and the forums and has cleared us both 🙂 You shouldn't be seeing that Malware error any longer and more importantly, you shouldn't be seeing anything trying to infect you either 🙂

Our admin staff was up all night working on the problem, if you see anything else that's strange feel free to contact me directly: anand@anandtech.com.

Take care,
Anand
Thanks for the update, Anand.

FWIW, even though I was running ie8, and anandtech was in Trusted sites, and I had recently undone my whitelist/security, as far as I know I was not infected. This is after running several malwarebytes, and etc. scans.

Microsoft Security Essentials, Adobe Reader with all updates applied, Windows 7, or DEP (Data Execution Prevention) saved the day for me.
