What sucks about being able to cook is you're expected to do it ALL THE TIME :| When I wake up on a weekend, I'll get myself a bowl of cereal, maybe some toast, and watch the Today show or Kids WB with my son. Then the family starts coming down "Dad...you know what sounds good?! I farmers omelette!" Then the wife comes down: "Wow...I'm craving one of those spinach souffles you made a few weeks ago!"

Then the inlaws call and ask if I'm making Sunday dinner, then the wife tells me she has a potluck on Monday and doesn't know what to make....LEAVE ME THE FRICK ALONE! I JUST WANT TO EAT MY FRUIT LOOPS AND WATCH CARTOONS!!!! :|

That is all. Sorry, had to vent.

Not only do I do all the cooking, but I do all the cleaning too. Then again, I live by myself, so it's not too bad :D

Yeah, being able to cook is WONDERFUL if you do it for yourself. But when you start doing it often for other people and you don't really receive any benefit personally from doing so... it starts to suck. Basically if you live by yourself being able to cook gives you added variety. You have the ability to make something really awesome, but you don't necessarily have to. Sometimes you just want some damned Fruit Loops and cartoons. The key is you're not limited to eating Fruit Loops or frozen pizzas like the people who can't cook.

OP, I feel your pain.

Wife's sick and I wouldn't want her expending any energy or spreading her disease. The son is inept in the kitchen. The daughter can cook, but seems to need to be prodded.

This morning I already cooked one dish meals (think homemade hamburger helper) for tonight and tomorrow. I hate having to start cooking a meal after I'm all tired from working around the house.

Amen. Every time I go home from school I'm expected to cook lavish meals for everyone. :| It's supposed to be my damn break and I'm slaving over the stove.

Yea, this is where im at too. I love to cook and have no family. If OPie doesnt like cooking for his family he should have thought of that before he started breeding. :p

You should make your services available at predetermined times. "I'm cooking breakfast at xx:xx. If you want some, be there. If not, the fruitloops are in the cabinet." You can also offer a specific meal and if they don't want that they can fend for themselves.

i live with eight other people, and one of them is a girl. just one. everyone nags on her to cook. and then when she cooks some brownies for everyone, they all dig in and then leave the place all messy, and expect her to clean the place and do all the dishes. it's pretty lame.

I guess I just hate the "nobody can feed themselves" attitude. If I wanted to make something, it would already be made. However, if I don't cook, everyone would starve (my wife can burn water). Make your own damn food once in a while people! :|

I know the feeling.
Oddly in my family , me and my brothers can all cook, my sisters can't.
My mother was fairly demanding growing up that everyone help in the kitchen.
My sisters though wanted no part of it and often refused.
They can barely boil water.
One called me other day on how to cook fried chicken.
Then called back later to tell me they nearly burned the house down.
Got the grease too hot, fire resulted, tried to put water on it, dumped the pan on the floor, fire continued, put it out with a rug.

Got to go now, time to get dinner started.:)

Correct Answer to the Question: 'No'

If you never force them to fend for themselves, they never will. Just occupy yourself with something else once in a while so they have to learn to cook.

OK Johnny Drama you could always teach those in your household how to cook. Methinks that you like providing meals for everyone. Quit whining and grow a pair.
