24x, won't be buying a new one either till the DVD burners get faster and come down in price.

Sorry guys forgot to add 32x, the poll has been updated.

I also removed all CD-RWs slower than 8x.

8X replaced my Memorex 2X2X24 rthat is currently in my suister computer. I paid 230 for that one and 60 for my 8X.

Technology sucks.

Heh, I'm still running a 4X HP purchased at a time when SCSI was all the rage. My son's is an 8X Yamaha. My next will be a Lite-On for $75.00 and I don't give a damn how fast it burns. Matter of fact, I'm more concerned with how quiet it is at spinning CDs!

I have a 24x plex, but the 40x Lite On just came in today. I like plextor quality, but the differences aren't as great as they used to be. And the 32x lite-on could burn to 99:05 (plextor can't) so I'm hoping this 40x one will too. :)

All these from the 'hot deals' forum. :)

Iomega/Plextor 121032-------- Office Max ----- $120 each - Late Dec 2000.
Plextor 161040------------------- Dell ------------- $128 - August 2001 ?
Lite-On 241040 ------------------ Office Max ------$ 85 - Late 2001?
Lite-On 401248 ------------------ Dell ------------- $80.55 - End of April 2002

Seriously, I should have stopped at 24X and saved for a DVD+RW drive, but the 40X was very hard to resist.
I remember paying about $550 for a HP 620i (SCSI, 2X) drive August 1997. Paid about $120 for the Adaptec 2920 SCSI card. :frown:
