As you can see from my sig below my system is pretty dated. What do you think will be needed for BF3? And also Diablo3?

has to be able to play crysis! :p

Sarcasm...

im sure if you just change your gpu to a 6900 or a 500GTX series, and keep resolution within 1080p, you should be ok on your config.

getting a little old on a processor and chipset as well..

runs great on an i7 x58 or i7 SB setup...

even i5's but dual cores are on the way out for sure..

The Alpha was pretty hardware intensive..
it played well on my i7 systems but that is with SLI 460s on 1 and a single 580 on the other..

and both systems are running 12gigs of DDR3 1600 ram

Looks like you're basically at the minimum requirements. I'd say it's time for Quad Core and minimum of GTX 460 / Radeon 6850.

One of the real joys is learning not to piss away money just to play ONE game. Also learning to not upgrade before its even out. Even worse is asking a bunch of nerds what they think the game will need. These kinds of threads should be banned for the same reason we dont allow price checks.

Agreed.

With that said, I was running a e6750 before and it was definitely a huge bottleneck for bc2. You're not going to want to try to play bf3 without a quad core more than likely. The video card side is total speculation.

My GTX 560 Ti (OC'd) performs close to a stock GTX 570. Ran the game on Ultra with 4x AA, 16x AF and I was surprised with the performance. I believe this will change since Ultra doesn't seem to be much different than Low. If you want to have all the settings cranked at 1080p, I recommend a GTX 580. Personally, I'm going to SLI my cards. That should handle anything that game can throw at it and more.

I think it will be hard to say, AMD may release new drivers that will get it closer to the GTX 580

My rig in my sig plays it just fine @ 1080 Ultra settings 2xAA. Haven't noticed any slowdowns at all.

A decent quad core like a , q9xxx @3.0, q6600 @ 3.2, Phenom II x4/x6 @ 3.2, i7/i5 @ 3.0 with a 5850,5870, 6870 or better or gtx 560, gtx560ti,gtx470, or better, should run it at high detail @ 1080p at a steady 40fps+.

I'm still running an 8800 GTS 512 - it will be interesting to see what the card can do at 1024x768 @ 150Hz. That low of a resolution doesn't bother me since I'm still using a Trinitron CRT.

Like others have stated, upgrade hardware after the game is released, not before.

Eek, 4:3 should be avoided if possible. You should letterbox the game to 1280x800 to get a wilder field of vision. Just adjust your monitor buttons to make it the proper 16:10 ratio. You could try 16:9 @ 1280x720, but it my experience 16:9 can be too small on a CRT for a long range game like Battlefield.

That's what I do with my 21-inch CRT. I play BC2 at 1920x1200, and will probably try for 1680x1050 on BF3.

My 9800gtx was able to play at 1600x900 on low but 1280x1024 with some options on medium and low ended up giving the best results and didn't look half bad .

if your monitor does 16:9 then why would you ever run 1280x1024 which is 5:4? you literally are cutting off 1/3 of your field of view in games. you should use another 16:9 res like 1280x720.
