Both these statements just aren't true, each franchise has different requirments and there're SBA loans available.

I am coming from a fast food/table service background. I worked with a group that has operated multiple franchise concepts for over 25 years.

Trust me, franchises don't just get handed out. I'm sure there are some lesser known franchises that you can buy into for less. I remember reading that the cheapest one was Papa Murphy's Take and Bake. The average buy-in/startup for that franchise was around $180,000.

Entry level for many others starts out at $300,000 and just goes up from there.

Again, speaking from a restaurant/fast food franchise experience.

Assuming US $, you can start pretty much any franchise that you want.

Canadian $, you should just go buy a beer and a pizza and spend the rest on ordering a pay-per-view porn.

Good luck with that.

Most franchises are going to laugh at you if all you have is $100k in the bank. They typically want at a minimum, 3x the startup costs(which are a far cry from $100,00) readily availalble, then they will typically want you to sign on to a franchise development agreement (put in X number of stores in X number of years or lose your franchise rights), and then there's that little problem of having operational experience with the franchise or a similar one.

I hate to bust your balls on it, but they just don't give away franchises to anybody with 100 grand burning a hole in their pocket.

Listen to that man.
Established franchise will require you to go through extensive training before awarding you one. They do not just hand you one just because you have money. If you didn't know what the fsck you were doing, you could ruin the franchise reputation.

You need about $500K for a McDonalds franchise.
I've known people with less awarded with their own stores but those people are highly experienced with very good credentials.

a local lan cafe i frequent started with around 125k.

They now have 3 locations, and i believe are swimming in cash (not literally but they are pretty well off now).
