Both these statements just aren't true, each franchise has different requirments and there're SBA loans available.
I am coming from a fast food/table service background. I worked with a group that has operated multiple franchise concepts for over 25 years.
Trust me, franchises don't just get handed out. I'm sure there are some lesser known franchises that you can buy into for less. I remember reading that the cheapest one was Papa Murphy's Take and Bake. The average buy-in/startup for that franchise was around $180,000.
Entry level for many others starts out at $300,000 and just goes up from there.
Again, speaking from a restaurant/fast food franchise experience.
