I knew my wife wasn't big on solitares (lucky me :D), so I got her a platinum band with diamonds inset around it. We both got plain platinum wedding bands.

It works out well, because she inherited her mothers solitare, and wears it occasionally.

I plan on buying her ~1ct solitare for our 10yr anniversary. (hope she's not lurking ;) )

I got her a 0.29kt diamond ring. Yeah, I know that's considered small by many.

She felt that since we were getting married, it would be more important to save the money for the things we would really need, since we were going to be tight on cash. No point throwing in a few more thousand dollars on something frivolous, and then not be able to afford a washing machine.

I figured she might get laughed at by other women (say, at her work place), but she always told me that if they did, she'd reply
"So what if your diamond is bigger than mine? At least I know my husband is willing to go through the hardships of life with me. He's not rich but he still did this."

:p

Maybe I'll buy her a bigger rock on the 10th anniversary. I hope I'll have saved enough by then.

In June I bought a 1.04 ct solitare princess cut for my fiancée online. I was a little worried about buying a ring online but I recently had it appraised and it appraised for almost twice what I paid for it!

I was looking at 3/4 with my girlfriend while we were in Myrtle Beach. She decided she wanted no bigger than that.

Might want to change your poll options to ranges. ;)

bingo. I did the same for my wife .75 carat with the above mentioned stats. She still gets compliments on it.

Whatever barely visible is. The cost of the wedding and moving my wife down here didn't leave a whole lot of money for diamonds when I was making a whopping 17K a year (1984).

I think it's about .33 total main diamond is Marquis cut.

She doesn't wear it anymore. It's too small for her finger and she wears more silver now than gold.

She has replaced it with a black pearl on a silver band.

Fitting thread as my anniversary is on Monday. :)

1.1c Princess, D, VS2 $5k. Mount was almost as much (12 or 14 small princess) with 4 small round on either side ($3800). Appraises to $12k. Worked with a GG we know out of her house.

Relatively non-value add -- rather would have bought something small and put the money into a car, vacation, honeymoon, etc....

Got .3 which is good size but not too big to break the bank.

It may be impressive now but just wait till she's pawned it in to buy her new boyfriend a boat

He didn't get me one. We were planning on getting custom bands (just something simple with no stones) on our 10th anniversary, but that anniversary came and went and nothing happened, and he got me a solitaire around our 12th anniversary last christmas. It's about .35c or something like that.
