What size diamond did you buy for her engagement ring?

She wanted nothing bigger than 3/4 carats (tiny fingers), so she got a .74 carat diamond with great color, cut and clarity. Size is about the least important factor in how good the diamond looks.

Might want to change your poll options to ranges. 😉

Good call.

OP, if you don't mind a related note, I'd also like to know if people used a formula for what they bought, e.g. 2 months salary; (1 year + 2 cows)/3.5; etc.

my dear hubby got me a .49ct when we first got engaged, he was still in school... for our first anniversary, he suprised me with another solitaire ring of 1.03cts. it is so beautiful.

Other.. she inherited the diamond (1CT) and a I spent $2500 on a new band that they made in house custom platinum blah blah... but they were old school craftsmen in an independent shop and it came out very nice. Needless to say we are no longer engaged but I know where I'm buying my next one from.

But friends also got around the 1CT mark, although several got between 1 and 2 because the price was not much more. Apparently demand is higher for 1CT stones so if you go slightly bigger you pay about the same

.76, d color, vs1, princess cut. around $5k. 5th anniversary is this month and I'll be surprising her with a new band with diamonds made from the earrings I gave her when we first started dating.

From .75-1.0 CT looks the best. I don't like gaudy jewelry, your wife shouldn't either unless she's Lil' Kim.

Three stone, .49 CT center, .24 CT sides, all stones were matched: I, VVS2, AGS 000 (Ideal Cut, Perfect Hearts & Arrows Pattern). Set in 18K White Gold.

I think the exact numbers are .70 carat for the main stone (marquis) and .17 carats in the side settings. for a total of .87.
