I'm seeing a lot of threads where people discuss what age children become adults, thus able to make there own decisions regarding sex, crimes, etc. Some say 18 is good, some say 15 or even younger. So let's put this all together; what age does the community of ATOT believe should be the legal age? Should we have different ages for different situations (say 16 for consensual sex, 18 for crimes tried as an adult, etc.)?

I personally believe that it's hard to stamp an age on a country of millions, because some 15 year olds are going to be more mature than some 18 year olds. That being said, I'd say 16. If you can drive a car and are able to assume the risk of killing someone through a car accident, you should be able to (legally) be sexually active and tried as an adult. I know it's not as simple as a number, but we have pick something!

I'd go with 16 unless the participants involved are within 2 years of each other.

edit: not that I personally would want to date a 16 year-old, but I feel like when I was that age, I was mature enough to decide who I wanted to have sex with.

I dated a 20 year-old once when I was 29 and, ngl, I wanted to shoot myself in the face after hearing him talk for about 5 minutes.

Depends on the age difference. It's 16 here in Canada. It was 14 up until recently!! I'd say 18 with provisions that allow people close in age to have relations.

I'd say 14 as long as the other person is within a year of your age (14 with a 15 year old, 15 with a 16 year old, 17 with a 19 year old, etc.) til the age of 18. I would rather not see kids having sex at that age but I don't think they should be prosecuted if they do sleep with a bf or gf completely consensually.

I think more than a year spread and you get situations where the older kid can put undue pressure on the younger. 16 with a 14 year old? 18 with a 16 year old? There gets to be a pretty big social difference, and one person has the clear advantage.

13 and younger and you're still dealing with pre-pubescent minds, regardless of the physical maturity of the person.

The trickier question for me is about kids sharing photos with each other. It seems ridiculous to prosecute anyone for an under-16 year old kid snapping a shot of her developing boobs to send to her bf, but I completely understand the quandary that once those pics are taken they are out there and can be used for some pervert to jack off to... prosecuting those innocent kids is a horrible solution, but how do we prevent kids from inadvertently feeding the child porn market?

<----- female who didn't date til she was 17 and didn't have sex til 21.

Those of you saying 18, I agree kids shouldn't be having sex younger than that but assuming they do, do you think they should be prosecuted for it in a court of law? That's the question on the table, because that's what age of consent actually dictates.

If you can find a video of Krysta Kaos on PublicDisgrace.com, she talks in the pre-boink interview about losing her virginity at 12, and she seems pretty smart.

I vote 12.

You don't. Theoretical what-ifs aren't really relevant, and the kid learned a valuable lesson in securing data, and trusting other people.

I say 16 for everything. For under 16, a 2 year delta is reasonable.

I'd say at 16 you should pretty much be able to do everything legally, and you should be held responsible for your actions.

consent of the person in the photograph seems like a reasonable standard (ie: the difference between a 16 year-old girl sending her boyfriend a lewd pic versus her boyfriend sending it out to all of his friends without her knowledge)

It shouldn't be an age, it should be an image... If you can make yourself look old enough to sneak into a club, then you are the age of consent. Like that 14 yr old girl Akon dry humped.

^What it should be is where you are shot for having sex with anyone but your spouse. ^

This would solve the decay of our society and only cost a few people their beloved "freedom".

anyways you know what they say, grass on the field... :hmm:

I vote 15 cause no one knows wtf 15 is. It's a grey age. I know I wanted sex before that, but we're talking legalities here. 17 & 18 is stupid. 16 is fair.

Anyway age of consent means nothing. It'll scare some, but most just ignore it. The real issue is the poor sexual education in the US.
