I cannot believe it.

About a year ago, I registered the domain "dvdforums.com" with the intention of building a forums much like anandtech just to talk about dvd's. But since I'm a student, I haven't had much time to do anything with it in terms of publicizing the site. So I just setup a forums and invited a few friends to post. Nothing much, just a very small site.

Recently I learned that there is a website out there called "thedvdforums.com" based in the UK. Some of their users would accidentally log into my website and then leave.

Well today, they decided it was time that they killed my website. The have posted hundreds of messages that are disgusting and very crude. I wouldn't think that the British are so so classless, at least those that decided to flood my website with there obsenities and filth.

I am so pissed off right now I don't even have the energy reply to everybody on my website. Not that I think they would care.

This is really ticking me off!

Have fun deleting all the posts, and start banning IP's

WoW, I just read some of their messages... I think that is definately a violation of terms of service... and you could press charges if you wanted to...

A true definition of "assface". :|
Not sure what you can do about it, though. I don't recommend retaliating in a similar manner.

think of it this way...

there is a good chance people trying to get to his site (thedvdfourms.com) will get to yours instead. You ought to take advantage of that in some way.

Besides, we can F#@K with his site... not you!

Really, I had dvdforums.com first, I don't know what they're crying about. If you can't remember "the" in "thedvdforums.com" then you're pretty pathetic.

bls

try contacting the admin at the british site...

most site admins do not condone this kind of junk & usually will take some protective action on their own site

blstriker,

They are potentially making you a tidy sum of money. The more they hit your site, the faster the value of the domain name increases. Let them have their fun, then when some giant company with enormous marketing resources comes along and hands you a wad of cash, it is you who will have the last laugh as their site gets crushed.

Damn basterds! :|

Here's a link to how all this Started.(I lurked around their site)

If I were you, I'd Spam their forum the same way (not using my computer though ;)), But I?d take Killbat's advice on that part.

You know, with 35+ thousand members here, we could hit them so hard & so fast they wouldn't know what happened...

I've got a T1 here, I can help...

I say we do it! Viper you should start a thread to recruit people! I would but more people would take notice if you made it.

Viper: I'm in, glad to help, the University of Pittsburgh lets us use an OC3, just let this relative newbie know what he can do. BTW, I just tried to check www.thedvdforums.com and MSIE says it cannot find the server. Maybe the universe dispensed justice before we could. ;)

this is the post I like from the UK site:

Perhaps they're watching us right now, spying on us, posting slanderous messages!!! Who knows ???

Yeah, I finally got there. The @!*&# routers here are screwed up, I can load a web page faster on my 56K connection back home, but once those packets start coming or going they really fly.
Viper: Agreed that return fire is only warranted in severe situations (which, owing to the Admin's action I cannot consider this). However I must say that it's times such as this that really make me wish I knew more (or indeed anything) about hacking.
One final thing, if it's a UK site, shouldn't it end in <.uk> not <.com>?

I was under the impression that it was just an oversees provider... I almost wish I new less about hacking... But I'll tell ya, with the bandwidth we have here at Anandtech with its unbelievable amount of users, we could have one hell of a DOS attack
