As stated in your other thread, this is just as much your fault as GM's. You refused to take it to a different dealership when the one you were taking it to sucked.

You also didn't do any research to find out that factory installed remote starts suck. They are made by Code Alarm which is now owned by Audiovox. You got the cheapest and most unreliable remote starter known to man. You got what you paid for.

Point 1- I did ask to go to another dealership, they told me I should really stick with this one since they have been (poorly) working with the situation.

Point 2 - I shouldnt need to research every single part on the car, it got decent reviews so I went with it, do you research who makes the bolts on your car to make sure they dont break? No, you assume they WORK AS ADVERTISED!!!!! I was sold a car with remote start capabilities, they are therefore OBLIGATED to provide such service.

I can see where you got your name, you are a rude a-hole.....

You made a whole new thread because you were getting flamed in your other one. You desearve a little attitude.

Point 1. Its your car, you are free to take it to any GM dealership to get it fixed. You have to take ownership of your problem at some point.

Point 2. Please show me the reviews that show decent reviews on the factory installed remote started. Without hearing any of the details of what went wrong, I can tell you exactly what the problem was with your remote start. How? Because I made my living off them for years. The guys at the GM dealership spent decades hating on remote starters and now they are installing and servicing them?

EDIT:
But to answer your question, the only thing you might get is an extended warranty on the remote start itself.

No I made a new thread because the original issue is resolved and now they have told me they are prepared to offer me something for my trouble and want to know what I would like.

I was unaware I was able to take it to another dealership until late into the situation.

I didnt see reviews on the remote start, I saw reviews on the vehicle as a whole, I dont research individual componants just as you dont research the bolts that hold it together, I didnt research this part.

And tell me oh great one, what was the issue? I wouldnt have guessed what it was. But now that they told me it makes sense.

My first guess would be the factory security bypass.

Nope, that was their second guess after reprogramming the keyfobs. Any other suggestions? After that it was completely replacing the security module, then the entire BCM. And then the remote receiver

So what then was left?

I already have the extended warranty to 5 years and was thinking of asking for 5 years onstar with navigation butr the life of the vehicle sounds good too.

Tires dont matter to me, I'm a family guy and don't need anything fancy.

Ask them if you can keep the extended warranty, but have them reimburse you for it. And I don't think the HHR looks like a turd. I wouldn't mind having one, but I would try to get the SS if the finances allowed it.

Also, mainly for rudeguy - I have a 2007 Malibu with remote start, and I've never had one problem with it. Use it on a daily basis.

Chill - atot assholes have a tendency to blame the victim, not the system.

If I bought a car with a radio that shreds all of my CDS, I'd put the blame in the car manufacturer for continuing to use such shitty cd players..

Some people are fucking lifeless, pathetic, tediously bored with their lives people who have time to research every little aspect of every purchase... Other people are married/have girlfriends, have jobs that matter to them, and people to care about. We do our homework, but we don't spec out parts of hypothetical purchases before making said purchase -how pathetic is that?

"It's your fault that your xbox 360 died on you. They have shit cooling, you should have done your research - stop blaming microsoft, you should have done your homework on the company that made the heatsinks and lead solder.."

Sad.. Really..

P.S. You should ask for a hand job.

Wrong again, heres another hint. When the weather outside was warmer it failed much more often than when it got cold. Any last guess or do you want to know what was the issue was caused by?

Wait, are you going to ask for a handjob?

On a serious not, ask for free oil changes and inspections for the rest of your extended warranty with them.

I edited before you replied, but its something with how they tied the voltage sensor of the remote start into your ignition system. Hopefully they set it to current sense and not run off the tach wire. But from the sounds of it, it was running off your tach.

Actually, what they told me is the sensor for the hood latch was faulty. The vehicle would at times think the hood was open and refuse to start remotely. However the vehicle would start with the key.

My point is, not everything is as cut and dry as you try to make it. People make mistakes but I've been as nice as humanly possible with both the dealership and GM. I could have said "fuck you" and went to the attorney general or filed a lemon lawsuit and got the car repurchased AND lawyer fees but I decided to give them a chance. Probably more chances than I should have but I'm not that kind of person.

They tell me the vehicle is fixed and want to provide something for the trouble, but instead of offering advice on what to ask for, you decide to be internet tough guy and the all knowing genius of remote starters all in one and end up looking like an ass. Sorry to be a dick and all, but jeezus man you started it.

My point was that factory remote starts suck. If they couldn't diagnose a faulty pin switch (it cuts off all power to the unit), then this goes to prove my point. I wasn't trying to be a tough guy, I was making a point. If you had taken it to a place that had more experience in remote starts, your car would have been fixed in a couple minutes.

GM probably isn't going to do jack for you. The dealership MIGHT. The dealership didn't know its ass from a hole in the ground. That's not GM's fault.

GM "engineers" worked on it as well, so yes it is in fact GM's fault as well. Furthermore they were the ones who originally installed the system so they are again at fault.

Aren't you glad you posted here? A bunch of know-nothing pompous asses with lots to say and no real substance. The egos here are of gargantuan proportions.

They're offering to compensate you in some way, but you've read between the lines and they want to offer you something that doesn't really cost them any money.

Onstar - whatever length you think they'll go for.
XM - same, whatever they'll go for.
Oil changes - I think they'd go for that

Picking up your extended warranty - I doubt it. It's through a third party and they're not going to get involved with that. They're not going to cut you a check either for reimbursement, so I don't see this happening.

They're not going to go for anything big ticket, wheels or tires as was suggested.

You've got a good head on your shoulders, you know what they will and won't go for.

What's most upsetting to me is that the internet used to be a place to turn to for help. A place where people gladly offered whatever they could. Now, it's a bunch of snide remarks from turds that have nothing to offer. You don't even hear, "Well I'm not sure but I think that .... ". Now, you get nothing but crap.

C'est la vie. Doesn't mean I have to like it. :disgust:

Good Luck!
