What say you? Abortions For or Against?

<< Abortion should not only be legal, in many cases it should be mandatory. >>

Maybe the people that you feel should have been aborted should be held accountable for their actions as well. I strongly agree with l2c on the accountability perspective. After all, that is what this entire topic comes down to.

Preyhunter, I agree that most abortions currently carried out are unnecessary.

<<What if the person is in a coma?>>

If there's no hope for recovery: pull the plug.

It is alive, human, and an individual (its own heartbeat, brainpatterns, DNA...). You kill it. It isn't hard to see the wrong in that, even if you throw all the excuses as to why we should be able to kill in the world.

I'll answer this thread the same way I answer all the abortion, euthanasia, etc... threads.

Humans should not kill each other unless it is self defense (and/or defense of others) against someone NOT innocent in said threat.

Simple rule to live by. Makes sense.

I would hate to live in a world where others decide who lives and who dies based on "quality of life" and inconvenience to themselves. Notice that none of us were aborted? We are all here to argue about it now. Lucky us.

Optimus, your reply proves that you're really short sighted and probably haven't even read the arguments I've written down in an earlier post.

As I stated before, a simple argument AGAINST abortion would be to take a sample... ask, say, a million people from all walks of life whether or not they wish that they'd been aborted.

I'm guessing (and I doubt highly that I'm far off) that there would be an extremely small number of YES answers. It would be illogical for a human to want to end his or her own life before it has even begun.

Everyone wants a chance at life, and everyone deserves a chance. Unfortunately, not everyone gets a chance, but that's the unfortunate reality of it.

Putting abortion aside, injustices happen every day of our lives. People are denied their basic human rights day in and day out. The fact that it happens doesn't make it OK, but I think that it's also wise to accept the fact that it happens and just try to relate to, have empathy for, and love one another. Nobody's perfect. Set a good example and show people the right way instead of preaching it to them.

For all you Christian zealots--that's what Jesus did.

<< If there's no hope for recovery: pull the plug. >>

Wouldn't that describe some pockets of people, in American society?

Should we euthanize these "habitually troublesome" groups, as well?

🙂

To answer your million people survey question, try asking a million people in the slums of Rio de Janero or the projects in Chicago or the starving ppl in Africe.

See how many "yes" you get then.

Wedesdo,

Maybe a few more, but I highly doubt you'd get many at all. Humans have a basic instinct to survive, to live. Even when denied basics like food and shelter, people try to hold on to life.

My point in saying that was that who are any of us to decide whether someone lives or dies? If you were to be able to ask the child in the womb, would it say that it desired to be terminated before being given the chance to live, a chance to overcome a potentially tough upbringing to a nonexistant Dad and a crack-addicted mother? That human instinct to live, to take on the odds, whatever they are, is a strong one. Don't be so quick to dismiss it.

<< your reply proves that you're really short sighted >>

Wow! You are right - I must be short sighted because- WTF!?

I read them. Along with the other 103 posts in the thread. As much as you would like to think your tired, regurgitated comments were brilliant and scintilting debate material, they were the same ones we have debated here 1000 times. Many people have brought the same argument up, and we have debated it into the ground.
I may have been willing to do so again if you didn't come back being such an @sswipe.

(Psst!Basically they were covered by my statement that we shouldn't kill innocent humans, period...And BTW, I like how I'm short sighted, Mr. "My solution to problems is to get rid of them"? )

Anyway, my post was my opinion, simple as that. I will debate topics on a friendly tone, even hot topics such as this one. But when you begin hurling crap, I will not be dragged into it.

Wedesdo--

And furthermore... you bring up a good point. What of the starving people in Africa, the homeless, the penniless, the hopeless... what of them?

What's a better solution? Aborting them before giving them a chance to live (the chance that your parents gave you) or turning from our greedy capitalistic ways for once to give to those less fortunate?

That's pretty upsetting, actually. Why not take it one step further and sterilize everyone who lives in the slums and in third world countries. That way they can have all the sex they need to mask the pain and emptiness of life without the pesky "procreation" aspect of it. Then when they die out, problem solved, right?

I'm sorry, but your objectification of a human life bothers and saddens me.

l2c

however, one must understand the world is not an utopia place (therefore, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE homeless people, people who are crippled, etc. etc) However, to justify that abortion will take care of the problem is very UNJUSTLY...

well, just another dumb thought of mine that came very randomly! 😉

I wish everybody a happy day 🙂

The statements I made in this thread were based on logic, not on my personal opinion.

Why do people always run away from, or attack everything that doesn't fit their opinion on a topic? I've got rid of biased personal opinions long ago and prefer to use pure logic instead of emotions.

If you can't understand that, fine, but don't expect me to keep trying to let you see the light.

Calling me short-sighted for posting, as 103 other people did in this thread, my opinion is not "logical". You didn't logically debate my argument or attempt to clarify - instead you quite emotionally called me "short-sighted" and whined that I wasn't paying enough attention to your posts.

How very "unlogical" of you.

And no, as many people have found on this board, I have debated everything from legalizing prostitution to yes, abortion. I keep my arguments very logical, including not basing them on religious beliefs when debating non-religious people. I also make it a point to never start the labelling and name-calling, as they are the first sign that a debate is going straight down the toilet. You took this thing there with your reply to my first post in this thread.

The "Who is the real victim of an abortion" idea is a VERY valid one.
When does a human become a human? While the "human" is without a thinking, feeling brain, it is just potential. It is still connected to a thinking, feeling woman. It's her choice how to handle her own body. When it becomes capable of living outside of her body with full sentience, and without extra-ordinary medical assistance, then the choice should be taken away from the woman. At that point, the potential has been realized and is now a child, it just happens to be in the final stages of gestation.

Overall, we have to make sure that the choice belongs to the woman, the person who has to suffer, the person who has to decide what happens with her own body.

Religion is not a valid argument, no matter what the discussion.
It has never been proven, so how could it be argued or used in a debate. "God forbade it" blah blah blah...

I wont bother reading all those replys.

I'm against it. My mother had an abortion and she deeply regrets it.
Where a condom and use pills.

Now the only time i think it might be ok is if your under 18 or/and if you are poor without a job.
