LOL

It's different for different car.. usually around 5000rpm

Preludes are 5500 I think and Ing. GSR is 6000 I think.. not sure But the good old Civic Sis is at 5 or 4.5k not sure.

Is it the 2litre or 2.2? I think its just below 5000 because it doesn't max out as high as the sports models, so the vtec zone starts a little earlier.

It depends which car, which engine, whether it's fully warmed up or not, and some (if not all) engines vary the changeover point by throttle position as well. You'll be able to tell by listening and feeling the car with a little practice.

VTEC on the Accord is the fuel-efficient VTEC which are different from the Prelude's counterpart. Generally they kicks-in in a relatively low RPM-range.

Too high to really matter. Who drives at 5000 rpm? Most cars only do about 3000-3500 rpm at highway speeds. That's like turbos, you have to rev the crap out of the car constantly to get any boost and i assume vtech is the same sort of situation.

you can alter the vtec engagement with one of apexi.com's products as well. A lot of ricers have these boxens in their car.

I drive mostly in the 3000-5500 range (vw). At 3500 rpm's i have 10psi of boost, at 4100 rpm's i have 17psi of boost. Fun for a 10+ year old rado :)

NEGATIVE, they kick in at 5500...at least they do for the last SI made...why would you want vtec on at all times if you still drive around the city...if you only race, i coudl see why, so i think the kick in at high rpms makes more than perfect sense.

kinda wish turbos worked the same way.

they do, most turbo's spool up and doesn't release until you hit 3k RPM (or whatever you configure it)... so in essence it works the same.

They all kick in at 5500 RPMS but before that it is the jets for the car are just opening thats why you get a power boost after 3000 rpms but that isn't vtec,

Sorry I had the number wrong its 5500 not 5200.

muffstah: What kind of crx do you have? and did you get an engine swap or something? Because stock CRXs dont have Vtec. Only Japense and European SiR models have Vtec.

The US 4-cyl Accord (2.3L) kicks in at a much lower RPM. I have to ask my friend who has a '98, but it's 4-5000 range.

Jets? Are you talkin about dual length intake runners? They don't all have these. Each Honda engine is different.

turbos feel similar to vtec, cept 2x the power.

At 3000 rpm's my car has maybe 60whp, at 3500 it has about 130whp, at 4200 it has 170+whp.

Its quite a kick in the pants, you won't quite feel the same thing with vtec. Now turbo and vtec :) that kicks much ass.
