1600*1200@85Hz
1280*960@85Hz

Iiyama Visionmaster pro454

GF4Ti4200

BTW does anybody know why it gets blurry when changing to higher refresh rates, 1600*1200@85Hz is a bit blurry too
is it because of the RAMDAC or bad cables?

I've wondered that. 1024x768 @85Hz is blurrier than 1024x768 @75Hz on my former 17" tube. Then, every progressive video card I had made it less blurry but still blurrier than at 75Hz. I went from a GF2 GTS to a R9100 to a Ti4200.

I heard it's since giving the VGA cable more bandwidth may be pushing the cable's limits or something like that.

Higher refresh rates or higher resolutions?

It runs 1280*960@85Hz Crisp. Raising the refresh rate to 100 or 120 makes it go a bit blurry (most on 120), running 1600*1200@60Hz crisp but it flickers, it already starts to get blurry at 75Hz and 85Hz and is too blurry at 100Hz.

I think I found my answer here: GF4Ti and blurryness at high res Yet another reason to spend money on a new video card....... wheeeeeee :)

I found 1280x960.

I had to go display prop. > settings > advanced > adapter > list all modes > 1280 by 960, True Color(32-bit), 100Hz

1368x1026@80

true 4:3 (powerstrip custom resolution)

chose that over 1280x1024 because 1280x1024 is not a 4:3 reso and 1368x1026 is a good copromise to 1600x1200

I run my cheap 19" Envision at 1024x768@85Hz. Anything higher and it gets blurry. I suspect that's due to the combination of a cheap monitor and so-so 2D quality of my Geforce 3 ti200.

On the other hand, I run my older 17" Viewsonic PT775 at 1280x1024@85Hz with an old Matrox G200 and it's nice and sharp.

When I bought the Envision, I decided to try a change in shopping habits by buying a monitor that was cheap enough I could afford to buy a new one a year or two down the road (as opposed to buying the more expensive, best specs). So far it's worked fine and I've already gotten my money's worth. I'll probably replace it with an LCD when it starts to go bad.

strange.. i've always ran that setting and it looks normal to me.
I just tried 1280x960, and everything is just skinny and longer and gave me eye strane..

i myself use 1600x1200 @ 75Hz on 9800 pro.

The difference is only a few percent. Stretch the image with the monitor controls to better fill the screen. Suddenly 1280x1024 is the proper aspect ratio. Anyone who uses 1280x960 and stretches the image isn't at the proper aspect ratio anyways, so might as well get the few more pixels (less scrolling).

I use 1280x1024 by the way on a 19 inch monitor.

Thanks for explaining that. For a second there I though me running 1280x1024 on my 19' was wrong...lol. Why would you run it at 960 and lose the pixels? :D

In my desktop I run at 1280 x 1024 @ 85hz, games I don't settle for less than 1600 x 1200 with a Sony HMD-A440

1600x1200 is way too small for my tastes.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well.....

It has to do with the RAMDAC. A faster RAMDAC ---> Higher resolutions w/ high refresh rate.

1064 x 768 at 85mhz on Viewsonic 95f+ Seems fuzzy to me (or the letters are to small) at higher resolutions, though I will play some games at higher.

Like the original poster, I have the Samsung SyncMaster 900NF. I run my desktop at 1024x768@100Hz. Currently using an AGP GeForceFX 5200. I've tried larger resolutions, but text gets smaller, and I'm just so used to the 1024x768 res I don't like anything higher.

One question though.... My monitor has a BNC cable connection (I think that's what it's called), on the back. Is there anyway to use that connection (assuming it's superior) with a PC? Or would that be for some other type of input besides a PC?

Thanks

You can use it. You just need to buy a BNC video cable. In the past they have had higher quality. Its been a year pr three since I have looked into that though so I don't know if thats still much of an issue.
