My friend, you and I live in different worlds. :p

true

in my world, nobody buys 100$k worth of pistols within a few months :awe:

i have a friend who made it big though. he started a lawn mowing business at 18 years old, grew fast and branched out. he is probably worth 2$ or 3$ million now at age 30. but he still hangs out around town and doesn't do much with his money but invest it. still living in a house he picked up for 60$k.

i had big aspirations about 15 years ago. but after seizures and a dozen meds and brain surgery, i'm happy just putting in 40 easy hours and vegging out after that.

All day I deal with extremely intelligent, ambitious, hardworking, success-oriented people.

I come here as a get-away from those people.

this was the sickest of burns

almost as sick as that one reply by TFP that one time

Does being helped to become a more cynical asshole count?

You people taught me to cover my ass and always give myself outs because someone will misinterpret, read too much into, or see things that were never there.

Yeah, the P&N forum is a master class in having your words twisted into something completely different from what you meant to say.

I use atot as a bellwether for how yoots are thinking and the state of our society. I'm constantly amazed at how the great orange devider has made racism socially acceptable and the number of people here who unabashedly display it. Although, to be fair, it may just be the results of the bottom feeders and the internet. Nothing sells like negativity, amirite?

100%, and thats not a comedy pick. All of it, good and bad, serves as a huge psychological pressure valve and a good place to get out ideas/thoughts/frustrations with a diverse but generally polite but interesting group of people. And that extends to all of the AT forums, not just ATOT.

The closest equivalent I can think of is stopping by the bar on the way home (i don't but I think this serves the same purpose). You have a group of people that you "know" well enough to have a comunity but are also anonymous enough that there is less pretext and social pandering, which is the real social lubricant lies in any scenario.
