we have a lot of content here and a lot of it is inane rambling for fun, stress relief, boredom, or trolling.

but what percent do you actually find to have a noticeable positive effect on your life?

this could be more knowledge, better money skills, more informed decisions, or more positive outlook on life.

Percent? I dunno.

I do appreciate the knowledge (good and bad) that I have gleaned off of the AT Forums over the past 15+ years. Not just about computer parts and crap like that, but actual social, pop culture, political etc, information.

It seems that AT pretty much covers damn near everything going on the world -- relevant or not. It has prodded me to think quite often and probably even more often, prodded me to shake my head.

I'll occasionally find a good deal from the Hot Deals forum or get some good tech support advice from General Hardware.

But, yeah... most my time here is spent reading troll posts and reading/contributing to partisan flame wars. I'd like to think that I would have better off spending that time doing something productive, but I know damn well that I would have just spent it watching TV instead.

All day I deal with extremely intelligent, ambitious, hardworking, success-oriented people.

I come here as a get-away from those people.

I occasionally glean valuable info from the OTHER forums here...but from OT? Not a damned thing except the very occasional lol.

These days, very little, I'm just here to entertain myself. In the old days, more than that.

It's amazing how often I run into something amusing that someone posted that I realize is relevant to something I'm teaching. E.g., I think in the Hume thread, someone posted a video of idiots spinning a merry-go-round with a motorcycle wheel. "Wow! I'm covering centripetal motion next week! That'll be perfect for flying off tangent to the circle."

And, bizarrely, in P&N, even by reading the idiotic ideas, I'm able to evaluate which thoughts deserve some merit, and which ones don't, and often can improve my own understanding of an issue, or of the opposite side of an issue from the side I'm on. Of course, that takes a bit of effort to separate the wheat from the chaff.

70%-85%. I enjoy my time here. There's little that's life changing, even in the most trivial sense, but I havr fun. Beats the hell out of tv.

1% But that 1% is enough.

Aside from 99% of nef stuff, people always chime in with valuable knowledge when it comes to:

* Career advice
* Industry questions
* Salary negotiation
* Home buying tips
* Anything and everything regarding life experience

ATOT is a-ok with me. It has its place.

that's true. actually, salary brag threads here are partially responsible for getting me off my butt and finding my last job.

at least now i have broken the ATOT minimum wage barrier. :\

4. The I have a question and seek advise here person.
5. I love to make polls person.
6. Now you see me, now you don't.
7. Look at.... how much $$$ I make, what I just got, ...bragging person.
8. I saw it on the internet and it must be true person.

In OT ~3% for laughs from the Hume thread and random nonsense.

Out of OT (General Hardware, Security, etc) ~50%.

100% and I did not choose that as a comedy option. This place is great, it keeps my outlook positive since I get a daily affirmation that I'm not nearly as fucked-up as most of you.

Does being helped to become a more cynical asshole count?

You people taught me to cover my ass and always give myself outs because someone will misinterpret, read too much into, or see things that were never there.
