what or who brought you to anandtech?

Back in '97 or '98 someone on one of the computer hardware newsgroups mentioned this site and Tom's as a place for reviews.

I had been reading the site for about 6 months and Anand would post just about everyday on the front page. I figured he was in his twenties or early thirties when one day he posted that he was taking his driver's license test.

After about a year I happened on to the Hot Deals forum and lurked there eventually getting an account.

I was chatting online with a couple of my computer buddies from work and I was showing them the HD forum when one pointed out the OT forum. I believe that was the beginning of the end.

I guess I had to have somebody rub my nose in this place before I could find it.

Google probably brought me. I was one of those noobs that wanted to be told how to build a computer. 😛 My first time was in 2004. I remembered the name of the site when I came back in '06 for help in building my second computer. However, I didn't remember my login, so I just created this one. I stuck around in OT because it seemed like an amusing place to be.

nice, i think i still have that system someplace LOL
60mm Delta Screamer FTW

i forgot that name changes were retroactive i was thinking the earliest you would see would be like 2003 or so, i didnt change till after i hit 10k posts

colleague at work. Didn't join for a year or so, but saw the value in some of the forums like networking or operating systems so decided to join.

The hot deals forum. Sadly the hot deals forum went down the toilet. 🙁

Ditto. Supersix brought me over for the hot deals back in '99. And yes, it has.. relatively speaking... gone down the toilet.

I had one of those on a hedgehog - the first fully copper cpu cooler. Loud and whiney like a lot of...nevermind! 😉

Beat the crap out of the Globalwin FOP38's. Alpha PEP66's were pretty good for getting those 1GHz AXIA's over 1.4GHz. Intel was up sheet creek back then. Now look at how they are beating AMD making them walk down, tail between the legs.

FallenHero and I lived on the same floor of a dorm in college. During Freshman year as we were becoming friends, I'd go to his dorm room to see what he was up to (talking like mid-day here) he would be on these forums. Eventually I asked him what the hell he was looking at and he told me about Anandtech. I signed up and that's where the saga began.

im now running a OCed C2D 8400 LOL

Had a question about Windows Media Center. I also posted in the Video forums, "What exactly do shaders do? Talk to me like I'm a 3-year-old. Can someone give me an example, like a post a screenshot, and tell me what/how pixel & vertex shaders have created/enhanced the scene?"

Was a longtime visitor to Anandtech.com - so I signed up for the forums. Then I started lurking in P&N and eventually found the comedy gold mine that is Off Topic.

As for how I found Anandtech, it was always in the Top 10 links every time I Googled for a hardware review.

Like others, researching hardware. Back when I built me first rig or shortly after I started getting interested in really researching the parts I bought and somewhere along the line I stumbled upon AT. Shortly after I discovered the forums. Only recently have I started to actually post here though.

was a reference to this site from the now defunct bleem! program (a playstation emulator for the computer). I believe deeko, johnjohn320, and a few others have similar origins.

I was talking to my cousin's friend about buying an new computer, he told me I could build one cheaper, said "anandtech.com" was a great place to get help.

was lurking for long time (since 2001) before finally signing up.

and i didn't remember what brought me here.

I was drawn here because of distributed.net. I signed up and joined a team, since Team Anandtech was the number 1 team at the time. I figured why not. Never heard of anandtech before that tho.
