What options for eating in on Valentine's Day?

Bertolli's frozen dinner bags are pretty good if you want something easy.

We avoid going out around Valentine's day since it's stupid packed everywhere & just go a different day.

OK, Serious suggestion

Make some Steaks on cast iron skillet, serve with some seafood of some sort (steamed crab good and easy.) Fry some asparagus in bacon grease as well.

if you dont ruin the steaks, you will have great success, and all the red meat will get juices flowing.

Just checked - local grocery store has a special: 2 lobster tails and 2 ribeyes for $25. I'm thinking of going that route, and tossing in a couple pounds of king crab legs. Heck, maybe I'll do that tonight. Skipped lunch and I'm kind of hungry.

Surf and Turf Fondue ?

Seems Valentinish, The old one I had we just threw out, never used it much was a sterno from the 70's and my mothers.

Might get an electric one soon.

Serve with a simple side salad (grab a bag from the grocery store, toss in her favorite dressing, croutons, and carrot shreds) and a good bottle of wine and prepare to enjoy Valentine's day vagina.

"awwww c'mon babe, it's Valentine's day...."

:sneaky::wub🙁)🙂

Valentine's Day this year falls on a Saturday. And, many bars are having an "Anit-Valentine's Day" theme.

So, not only will restaurants be packed - but, expect bars/clubs/beer gardens to have an extra helping of lonely-itis angst / atmosphere this year. My GOD, humanity is such an emotional mess,...

Wife LOVES seafood. She's a good gal and agrees that she hates eating out on Vday. What a sh|t show that was in past couple years- overpriced and clusterfvck crowd.

I'll do some cooking as well- fancy scallops and maybe crabcakes.

you said fondue, yet I see some kind of boiling broth/oil?

I was expecting gruyere/emanthaler...but the good news is that you have not induced jealousy.

(oh that still looks tasty, though)

Did the lobster tails & ribeyes for dinner tonight, with a nice salad, and sitting here enjoying a slice of chocolate truffle cheesecake. Now what am I going to do later this week?

I agree, I was just making suggestions.

I do not even have a decent fondue pot myself atm, I just pulled up some generic Pics.

Makes me want to get a decent one again soon, though.

I prefer the good cheese/wine ones myself, also.

To quote Alfred Hitchcock, "Do it again" 🙂

I forget which Mel Brooks interview that was in, was a pretty classic story.

It's actually quite difficult to find a real fondue pot. Last time I tried, some years ago, you pretty much had to order from overseas and have it shipped.
Or just pick one up next time you are swinging through Switzerland.

Now that's pretty close

Amazon wasn't terribly useful/these things weren't really made over here at that time. I have a ceramic one, but not cast iron. As such, I haven't used it once. If you see most of the pots on that page are metal--lol, that is not fondue. or ceramic and even some cast iron models that are not designed to be used on the stove. You need to prepare fondue on the stove, then keep over the flame for the meal. It baffles me how simple this is, yet you rarely find the proper tools over here.

In recent times fondue has expanded to include fondue chinois - similar to japanese shabu shabu, a hot pot of broth in which raw meats and vegetables are dipped to be cooked.

To my mind, for home purposes this seems safer than oil. I've done a 3 course meal by heating the broth, then placing a metal bowl in it and making the cheese in that double-boiler style, then just pull out the bowl, and you can do a meat and veggie course, and then a second bowl can be added to make chocolate dip for fruits as dessert.

You made me feel sorry for the one I had out by the curb, no one seemed to want him, so I rescued him 🙂

I might have to clean it up and try it again, it is enameled.

Cast Iron bottom end even.

Wife muttering at me for posting a messy counter 😛

I actually have been wanting to try it out for years, was one of my mothers favorite things and the wife wasn't inclined.

Going to clean it up and try it out.

Valentines day sounds good, as I put it up there to begin with I guess.
