What oil do you use with your engine?

10W40 of whatever brand I happen to have at hand. Usually Valvoline or NAPA auto parts select. The engine has 150000+ miles on with conventional oil, something tells me switching over to synthetic oil would not be a good idea.

Besides, it burns less oil than the factory spec, and doesn't leak a drop (amazingly).

All engine oil will turn dark after just a few thousand miles. Carbon.

And yes, the virgin oil is purple.

All of these oils perform about the same. There is nothing really wrong with them, they just spec lower than other readily available oils.

Surprisingly, Havoline and Valvoline's synethetics rank right up there with AMSOil and Red Line.

Just above Mobil1 SuperSyn.

However, Mobil Delvac 1300 Super is a conventional oil that specs just as good as Mobil1 SuperSyn. Of course, without some of the benefits of synthetic - like an ultra low pour point.

I thought Valvoline has the weakest addictive package in their conventional dino among the major brands? Personally I think all SM rated oil is fine, but Havoline has ungodly amount of moly though, so thats what I use

Notice I said synthetic.

You absolutely cannot compare different oils from the same manufacturer, let alone different manufacturers or heaven forbid, different viscosities from different manufacturers.. lol

Actually Exxon/mobil supply over 90% of bulk oil out there for oil "makers". I think castrol sued them saying they were charging to much.

but i use the Mobil5000 in the old 160k+ buick and Mobil1 in the Corvette

just don;t use Fram oil filters. Anything but fram/honeywell made.
