401k and most other benefits have nothing to do with social security (which I agree is a broken system, BTW).
He was just talking about the fact that based on your federal tax rate and FICA rate below normal, you must make enough to pass the FICA threshold...I think.

67%

I pay about 33% of my income to the State & Federal tax man inclduing SSI/Medicare and SDI.

Health benefits cost me about $350 month and that is not factored into the above.

Praise the lord that we don't have 12 trillion dollars of debt to repay and that we have universal healthcare...oh wait, we have no healthcare and we have 12 trillion dollars of national debt...and the highest unemployment rate since the great depression.

70.5% after taxes, insurance, and 401K, assuming my salary is what I think it is. I don't keep up with that stuff. :p

LOL, this is so true.

In Australia we have UHC and no government dept.

And we only pay a little bit more tax than you. 30% of GDP vs 28% for the US.

What are you spending your money on!?!?!?!

Stupid Americans.

I used to keep 100% when both me a wife worked. Or she retained 50% and I retained 50% depending how you look at it. We drove 10 yr old cars which Zebo fixed and lived sub 100K house which I restored and took no vacations. Now I'm little different than w2 days, I'm self employed, so I pay myself not much and sink most back into growing and funding business. 0%. But I would not have it any other way. Sometimes freedom is more important than money.

Who the hell knows...the usual pork barrel spending, unwinable wars in the middle east, debt repayment, etc. Corporations really control this country while stupid Americans quarrel over mindless bullshit political issues they think matter.

I only get a percentage of my salary in my paycheck, but I get to keep 100% of my paycheck.
