What notebook screen size do you like most?

I like 14" wide screen, I just wish they offered higher resolutions than WXGA.

Though, I could probably go for a 14" SXGA screen too.

My 15.4" noetebook is larger than I was picturing, almost more than I want to carry around.

The 1680x1050 screen is very nice, though. The only issue is that the pixels are very small, so some people may need to adjust font size.

I like the lightest computer I can find, 12.1in widescreen is just fine

The approx x and y dimensions of a 15" screen are
x= 11.9in
y=9in

for a 15.4"
x=13.1"
y=8.2

So you lose about .8" of height on a 15.4 over a 15

Bigger is better as far as I'm concerned, although I have yet to use that 19 or 20" Acer that I saw at Microcenter a month or two back.

Actually, I think it all depends on your size/strength. I'm a decent sized guy (6'1", 205lbs) and I carried a 17" 1920x1200 notebook around campus to every class my senior year and it never bothered me. I imagine that if I was smaller/weaker that I wouldn't want to carry something that large.

I'd recommend going with as big as you can comfortably carry.

I left the poll out on purpose since I actually wanted some explanations to help me make my decision.

math/cad i'm not sure about, but when drafting documents i like to see a whole page at a time. in word you need about 1050 pixels vertically to view a whole page at once. these little 1280x900 pixels screens simply don't cut it. my new office setup is going to have a 1050x1680 screen. lots of vertical space for whole pages.

for math/cad, i'd look for a high res 15" notebook. 1600x1200 or 1900x1200 would be nice.

For CAD work, having a widescreen might be better for side panels. For GIS, I prefer a widescreen so I can have the list of layers and toolbox on the side. Same with photo editing.

I have a Sony 15.4" and it's nice for most things, but too dammed big for use on airplanes. Just not enough room on the little tray-tables to open it properly, and if the person in front leans their seat back...forget it...just put it away.

I have a 15" and my wife has a 17" widescreen. I prefer the 15", it strikes a nice balance between portability and screen size.

Of course, the 17" is great if you're using it on a table, and it's better for watching DVDs on the plane etc., but overall the 15" is more versatile.

I've found that for the majority of my uses, 13.3-14.1" is good.
