What notebook screen size do you like most?

Topic. Also which do you dislike? At this point I'm thinking that 14-15" would be best because of portability. Are 17"ers generally much heavier compared to their smaller counterparts? Also are 12" too small in your experiences?

14" is good. 17 is too big. 12 is not big enough.

and not wide screen. how people get work done i wide screen, low resolution notebooks i will never know.

Thank you Fenix. Could you elaborate on the widescreen issue, seeing as I'm looking to buy a laptop to use Math/CAD programs.

I left the poll out on purpose since I actually wanted some explanations to help me make my decision.

Widescreen, high res is great. 1680x1050 15.4" FTW!

math/cad i'm not sure about, but when drafting documents i like to see a whole page at a time. in word you need about 1050 pixels vertically to view a whole page at once. these little 1280x900 pixels screens simply don't cut it. my new office setup is going to have a 1050x1680 screen. lots of vertical space for whole pages.

for math/cad, i'd look for a high res 15" notebook. 1600x1200 or 1900x1200 would be nice.

Ah I hadn't considered this, thank you very much.

14-15" NON-widescreen. I don't use my laptop as my main computer, I don't need a huge screen.

15" @ 1600x1200 = sex

As someone who uses CAD programs daily I like 15.4" It gives you more overall area, which means I can organize my toolbars better than on a 15" and isn't as heavy as a 17". The space is wasted on most office apps like word but a widescreen does have more screen area than a 15" (it just happens to be horizontally - which is still perfectly usable for CAD programs). 17" is nicer for drafting on but a pain to carry around. I feel 14" is too small but I can deal with it. Any smaller is a no go esp if you are going to be staring at it for a long time.

Size can depend on what CAD (math too?) programs you are using and what toolbar set up you like. The guy in the office next to me uses like 2 toolbars and could probably do well on a 12". I use 6-8 so I would be left with no work space

i really like the 13" mac books. I'm not normally a mac fan, but those things are darn sexy, plus this most recent generation has addressed the only real remaining problem that i had: the lack of a right click.

I like 14" Screens with high resolution, had a 12" and you can't do anything with it without scrolling for your life. 15" is good for desktop replacement, and 17" is ridiculous in my opinion.

Mac books are overpriced, and I'd just end up using Windows on it. I think I'll go with the 15.4 if possible then, definitely not a 14" anymore.

14.1" SXGA... 1400 x 1050.

15 is a monster

widescreen is a joke because when it comes to portability you lose so much in screen, and widescreen only makes sense for desktop computing.

I had a 17" PowerBook and it was just too big to carry around.

I am purchasing a new 15" MacBook. It really is the perfect size. Not too big, not too small.

My Fujitsu notebook is 10.3". Some may think it's too small, but I like it, I carry it around like a book.
