Summarizing the meeting: Boehner wants to bring the conferees and have a sit down. Reid says ok but after you pass the clean CR. Boehner says no. We're gonna default so bad!

Saving a child's life has to take a back seat to the higher purpose of getting all non-essential government workers back to their, um, critical non-essential government work.

Yep.

Where I work we have around 600 employees. The amount of garnishments exceeds the amount of retirement deductions.

The heart and soul of the ACA is the individual mandate, which affects MAYBE 10% of the nation at most? Seriously?

I'd say the heart and soul of the ACA are the provision against denying coverage for pre-existing conditions and the exchanges. Even absent an individual mandate, the insurance industry's premiums would adjust to the new, higher level levels required as long as a brief waiting period is observed. This is exactly the same as with the individual mandate; it's still much cheaper for a healthy young individual to pay the fine and buy health insurance only after getting sick.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the individual mandate even though I don't think it really does that much, but I can also see the fairness issue in not punishing that 10% of the population when you're putting off punishing the other 90%.

That must be why the GOP offered to fund the NIH and the Democrats declined. Oh wait . . .

And no, my meds are entirely funded by me, or at least the first $2,700. Oh wait, the first $3,700 - I forgot my Obamacare of a mandatory $1000 higher deductible. After all, we can't all be Democrats, somebody's gotta work. ;)

You're right about the budget though. There was absolutely no excuse for Democrats refusing to pass a budget for the last three years, and there is absolutely no excuse for Republicans not to conference over it. If you can't reach an agreement, THEN you go out and make political points. But until you've made a good faith effort to do your job, keep your cake holes shut.

why would republicans go to conference over the budget? They'll get ran over by the democrats like they did with Obama care.

If Henry Reid and his fellow band of liars can rewrite any law they want, why work with such liars?

Just like Obama pushed on the house leadership to help support his failed attack of Syria, only to pull the rug from under them with no notice.

The dem's in power right now have stated over and over again that they will not work with republicans. Its only because of the lmsm there feet aren't held to the fire.

Because that's what we pay them to do. Even if they know they are going to fail, if they have not made a good faith effort to do their jobs then they have no call to criticize the other party.

Your link has switched over to a story about the biased mainstream media coverage, but it doesn't really matter as both sides have professed their unwillingness to work with the other. As we do not have a President capable of going directly to the American people and shaming Congress into doing the right thing or at least compromising to get the issue off the front page, this story will play out in the press. As the left largely owns the press, the blame thus will fall largely on the GOP. May not be fair, but that's life. And if the GOP is not at least trying to do its job, I have little sympathy for them.

tl/dr: The time to cry wolf is after you've seen a wolf, not when you're sure there will be one if you go out into the fields.

Granted, but that's reality. If the GOP are half the people not doing their job and get 75% of the blame, I have little sympathy for them. Yes, they were doing their jobs for three years while the Democrats did not do theirs, but with regards to the budget the GOP are the ones not doing their jobs now. No one can change then; the GOP can easily change now.

Fox News has the highest cable news rating, but has only a small minority of the news consumption market. Hell, more people get their "news" from The Daily Show than from Fox News. Many of them are even proud of it.
