What MMO has the best single player content

I have played EQ, WoW, War and Lotro. I enjoyed all of them for various reaons but have generally quit because of a lack of interesting single player content.

I like grouping and raids but sometimes I just want some 'chill time'

Do any of the current MMOs have good single player content ( lots long quests e.g the 'shawl quest' in EQ - which was mostly solo, single player instances etc)

I wish I could find something similar. I love playing with friends, but I hate being forced to look for a group when no one's on. I also despise raiding, unless it's a spur-of-the-moment thing.

I'd 2nd EQ2 - seems to have quite a lot of end game content - plus you've got a LONG frikken way to go to level cap :)

I only hate that when there's no one to group with due the shitty population, like in Warhammer.

I played LOTRO and made some great in game friends both in my kin and outside my kin... it was fantastically fun while it lasted.

I had top of the line gear on 2 of my 3 main toons... pretty much as well geared out as any one else on the server.

Then I just suddenly got tired of doing the grind and wasting my time.

Guild Wars? Not exactly solo but heroes & henches do well enough where you won't need another live player for 95% of the game. I had a lot of fun with it and usually played alone.

I didnt get my full Blademasters set or go on to do The Watcher but did have some of the best equipment available besides that plus one of the best Second Age Legendary Champions Maces :)

I gave up because I got tired of the grind and some of the Hard Mode instances were just pure torture.

I think the way WoW is now is really single player friendly. A lot of the dailies involve seige weapons. I think they did something right with them since it's more interesting blowing stuff up in a plane, or laying out traps, or jousting than being sent out to kill 50 mobs the same way you've killed 50 billion mobs before.

Thanks, I am downloading the EQ2 trial now. I played EQ2 three years ago and I wasn't that impressed with it. Partly because my video card struggled with the graphics at the time.

It will be fun to be in Norrath again (I still miss EQ sometimes). Hopefully the lag from China wont be too bad.

If EQ2 fails, I will try Conan. My current GT9600 will struggle though and I am hoping to hold out buying a new card until the dx11 cards are out.

I dont enjoy the WoW single player content at all. Tradeskilling is too easy and grinding daily quests is like having a second job. Once you hit 80, there is barely any reason to leave the cities. I havent ventured into the 'old world' since the Lunar Festival and that was just to finish some achievements

I also had the original Guildwars. The PVP was fun but I didnt enjoy the solo content. Is the expansion much better?

Lotro isn't an option as there is some sort of IP ban. I can't even access the Turbine website without an IP mask

Because there is still a living economy. You can still chat with people while playing. You can pass lowbies en route to your destination and give them buffs. You can still join the occasional group if you wanted. I typically prefer to solo, unless the group I'm in is all competent and not constantly afk. Most groups that I've been, especially when I played EQ1, took their sweet time way too much. Plus, all the phat lewts you get when solo go directly in your own pocket =)

Many times a solo experience can be MUCH more rewarding, and MUCH less frustrating than your typical group experience. This is different of course if you are lucky enough to have a handful of real life friends that you can play with regularly and rely on and trust, etc.

I fall into the same category. I don't mind raiding, but waiting an hour so everybody who's late can get there got old quick.

You might look into Free Realms, a Sony MMO, it's free and you can buy upgrades for cheap if you want. I hear it's pretty relaxed. Not sure how the end game is. I figure this would be better for a casual MMO-er. Limit yourself to $15/month and you don't have to dump time in to get new gear.

I agree with everything in this post.

Which is why I don't play MMO's anymore. Lack of solo content and gimping of classes to force grouping. Being in a group is too much like work, trying to corral 5/10/30 people into working together can be a chore and really detracts from the fun.

Sure in a perfect situation with friends where you don't need to tell people what to do and when to do it, and there's no squabbling over loot etc, it can be fun. But those situations are far from the norm in my experience. It only takes one immature player to ruin it for everyone, which can mean hours of lost time potentially.

Ths pretty much sums up my thoughts. I like grouping but mainly with friends rather than pick-up groups (though these groups can be fun too). I get tired of standing outside a dungeon waiting for a healer for 30 minutes and when one is found the tank suddenly has to leave for some random reason. Sometimes I'd like the option to head off and do things on my own.

Thats my suggestion. One of the few games you can play single or group and the experience is pretty much the same.
I actually wish they would make a SP version of this game so I could play it offline. I hardly interact with anyone. I dont know anybody personally. I just grab henchmen and go for the quests.

Number one reason why I quit wow: too much downtime.

I didn't raid with my guild... it was more of a collection of friends that I hung out with. They raided, I didn't. That said, even in the raids I did, they just weren't fun, especially when you did them over and over again. I didn't like the fact that raids were frequently over two hours. I had to pretty much allot two to three hours of time where I did absolutely nothing else... and well that sucks.

Finding a pug in WoW is way too difficult also. If you just want to do some simple heroics, you'll spend a lot of time looking for that tank or healer. And to me, that just wasn't fun. I'd say 60% of my playtime at level 80 was me running around Dalaran riding my mount while advertising in chat for a group. I exaggerate a bit, but you get the point.

The most fun I had in WoW was honestly leveling to 80. All my friends said WoW would be an entirely different game once you get to 80, and it is, but I don't like it. Once I dinged 80 for the first time, first thing I said, what do I do now? And frankly, I didn't have a clue. I dabbled in arena, but I usually brought my teams down. (Not that I suck... I can hold my own in BG's, but in arena, I'm a squishie glass canon). BG's are moderately fun, but horde is dominant on my battlegroup, winning more than 70% of the games (estimate pulled out my ass).

I'd honestly resubscribe to WoW if two things happen:

-Single (three) Player dungeons. Blizzard could create dungeons that are single player with two bots (healer, tank, whatever...depends what class you play), just like a few quests do. These dungeons should be fairly difficult, but not impossible. Loot doesn't have to be spectacular, but should be somewhere near the level of heroics gear.
-Better system for finding groups. Because lets face it, no one uses the current system.

Uh what? Almost everyone is now using the current system. Atleast they are on Illidan (horde) and Stormreaver (alliance).

Maybe depends on server, I dunno, but on Blackdragonflight (alliance), when I last played a month and a half ago, no one used it.

You can do every campaign in GW, on hard mode, with just heroes and henchmen with any profession you choose these days. Though to get to that point (proper skills and such forheroes) would require a lot of time if starting from new, and at least 3 of the campaigns (including EoTN).

some of the quests can be long and tricky, but mostly repetitive if you ask me.

yup. I pretty much solo through GW, bu chat it up when pals are on. IF anything, i'll team up with a friend or two, but that's it. I'm afk far too often and unpredictably to get seriously involved in long dungeon runs or whatever.

so far I'm having fun casually playing FFXI in 'single mode'
Although the quests are a lot of fetch this fetch that, I do enjoy my solo play style with the occasional partying and linkshell gatherings.
