<< HP 812C - fantastic printer, got it for $150 - thought it was such a great buy i had my sister get one. Not the fastest, but prints very nice. >>

my parents have had one of these for quite a while and it's pretty reliable and decently fast because it's a professional series... my dad prints a lot and they use the generic ink carts also - everything works great...

I got a Samsung ML-4600, 1200dpi laser, added some ram now its got 20MB, its fast, its laser, and i can print a 30 page document in no about 1 min. I love thins thing, i really honestly dont know how you guys can put up with inkjet text, its so blurry and depending on the printer and paper tends to streak also.

I have a Lexmark Z22. Not bad for a $50 printer- great print quality, but pretty slow like someone else said. But for $50, you can't expect much else. The text is real sharp, and the color is great too. It runs through black ink pretty fast, but I bought a refill kit so its not a problem. I don't print much, so its good for me...

I really like the upper end lexmarks. They refill easy too which will save big bucks in the long run...

I'm surprised to see plenty of recommendations for the HP 952 but none for the Epson SC 980? I'm considering buying a color inkjet for light business purposes to go with a laser printer. I was leaning towards the Epson due to its unmatched (in this class) print speed. Thoughts anyone?

<< I am also looking at HPs but don't know whether it is worth spending more for a more "advanced" model. Which series to buy:

930, 950, 960, 970, 990????

Thanks
>>

The internals are the same on all, the only difference is speed. The 970 and the 990 have a duplexer, and the 990 has IR for printing from a Palm or a laptop.

Lexmark Z52. Its very nice. All 4 people in my dorm room that were printing off it for the year only managed to use 1.5 black and .5 color cartridges.

Epson Stylus Color 880.

It's kinda slow. Epson kinda blows with all the utilities needed to print. However...the image/print quality is SUPERB.

My HP 720C is still running strongly after 2 1/2 years. Prints well at 600x600 best. My friend will get it.

However, I couldn't resist the "Hot Deal" a couple of weeks ago - $70 for both the HP215 1.3 megapixel Camera AND HP 842C after MIR and GC. The printer is a small step up from the 720C with 1200x600 on photo paper and is faster (unfortunately it uses more expensive smaller ink cartridges than the 720).

Slow? are u using the parallel or USB connection? (on second thought it may only be USB)

I like the fact that it shows you how much ink u have left every time u print... the other popup thing is unnecessary...

Fairly NEW! EPSON Stylus Photo 875DC LOVE this printer - has a card reader built in and does TRUE Photo quality prints. This replaced my old HP 660cse which I bought in 1995 - OK but outdated PLUS I cannot afford to hardly replace HP cartridges - - - you can almost get a new printer these days for a little more than what they charge for both cartridges.
IE: I needed both for my HP - about $50. Bought NEW latest tech Epson on special -delivered for only $25 more.

Good Luck!

<< HP LJ1200 and occasionally Cannon BJC-4000 for colour jobs (*very* occasionally). You just can't use a non-laser when printing anything with substantial volume ie >10 pages, it'll finish after TF2 comes out :p. (And yes I fully realise the Cannon is heaps old and nowadays ink jets have good speeds too, but the HP's 14ppm has eternally spoilt me)

HP LJ1200 is great. No printer prints faster (at least without spending double the amount). Be sure to keep it on a parallel port since the LJ1200 prints faster than current USB ports can send the data. I got mine for $355 at Sam's Club.

I have 4 printers:
I have had a Canon BJC 4000 for 6-7 years now and never had a bit of trouble with it but it cost me $430 back then.
I have an epson 760? that I use for color printing. It has good color, but takes a while to start up and shakes around aweful. I'm not too impressed with it.
About 2 years ago I got a Mita DP-560 Laser printer for $199, but it was discontinued a year after it came out and has no win2k drivers. It is almost impossible to get replacement parts and toner for it.
Yesterday I got a new Laser to replace the Mita. It is a Lexmark OPTRA E312L and it seems to work very well. It took me forever to find a cheap Laser printer that would feed 10 envelopes at a time, and the Lexmark will. I got it at www.necxdirect.com It was $287 with free shipping and then I used a $25 off coupon so it came to $262 shipped.

I have a HP 1220. Text is great. Images are dark, but I haven't tweaked settings much. You probably will want extra memory to keep print speed up. The scanner imports well into Acrobat. The biggest problem I see with it is the paper feed tray guides only touch at the center of the page, so it is easy to skew the prints if you aren't carefull when loading paper.

I have the HP Deskjet 895Cse. Damn good printer IMO, and I picked it up recently at Staples for a great price.
