thanks but we don't need to shoot or kill anybody. was thinking more along the lines of a pepper spray or some loud noise maker.
If you're serious about defending yourself, aiming to kill is the only realistic option.
Carry a gun if you're serious about actively defending yourself.
If you don't want to carry a gun, buy some good running shoes & be careful.

You mean to tell me the only way to fend off a would be robber is to shoot them?
No, but they'll think twice the second they see the damn thing pointed at their forehead. The main objective of carrying a firearm for protection is to defuse the situation - not end it outright. Only if that doesn't work and they keep coming do you pull the trigger
That just sounds like a recipe for disaster in the hands of a scared, nervous person.
Situational training + lots & lots of practice, it's a conditioned response - Not something you wait to see what will happen.
How many people who carry pepper spray have ever tested it? How many even know how to work it?
If you got 100 women together who had pepper spray & didn't let them modify where/how they carried the spray I doubt any of them could fend off someone starting from 100 feet away. Even when they knew it was coming.
On top of that, how many people are carrying pepper spray that is 5 years old?
Pepper spray that's treated like a weapon MIGHT be somewhat useful, but nobody uses it like that. They throw it on their keyring where it does no good whatsoever, or toss it in their purse where it ends up under their checkbook & tampons.
While I would definitely say the gun has an inherent advantage against an attacker (lethality + intimidation factor), the real advantage comes in the training & readiness that usually comes with carrying.
I'm no advocate of tossing a gun in your purse & considering yourself safe, that's the last thing society needs.
