thank you

disregarding an entire genre just because you dislike it, is rather pointless and childish.

nice job.

Sorry to piss you off about it, but I find rap musically hollow.

Jazz, R&B, blues, and funk are all fascinating musical genre's to me so I don't necessarily consider myself narrowwminded. Musically, rap is simplistic and repatitve. Lyrically I can't relate to it and it simply comes across as insescent complaining/posturing/nagging.

Not a big fan of country either, for a similar reason. I can't relate to itand it is musically uninteresting. Though I do like bluegrass and some old C&W.

doesn't piss me off in the slightest.

i can acknowledge that particular genres of music aren't geared towards me and that millions of others appreciate it.

i don't sit on a high horse and scoff at rap just because it appears to be simplistic to me.

Will the music you like today, be what you like tomorrow? Will anybody still be playing it five, ten, twenty, or even thirty years from now?

That's the ONLY way to listen to music. Back in the late '60s, '70s and early '80s, albums had themes, like "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "Diamond Dogs", "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust", "The Wall", Tommy", "Berlin", "Rumours", "Exotic Birds & Fruit", "Psychomodo", "Roxy Music", "Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy", "Damn the Torpedoes", "Killer", "Welcome to My Nightmare", "The Pleasure Principle", "I Robot", "Tubular Bells", "Brain Salad Surgery", "Bat out of Hell", "Houses Of The Holy", "Master of Reality", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road...

It's a pure pleasure to listen to them from start to finish. It must really suck to be growing up with what passes for "music" today.

Actually it kicks ass for those of us that realize there is more music out there than what's on MTV.

Will anybody still be playing it five, ten, twenty, or even thirty years from now? Will YOU still even like it?

BTW, I don't even think they play music on MTV anymore, do they?

well, if you're referencing what i mentioned, i meant that when someone disregards the rap genre (as many do here), it comes across as closed-minded and sometimes music-elitest-like. like those who brag about listening to indie bands and look down on those who listen to anything "popular" or on the Top40 chart. if you don't like it, fine. just don't denounce it because you know nothing about it.

i dont look down on people who listen to top 40 music, i just find it stupid that people do so willingly....i find it closed-minded that the only reason someone will listen to a song is because its popular, that means that they probably will never hear another song by that artist, unless the come out with another top 40 song.

haha ok sorry again guy, I probably should've put that better. Let me go ahead and retract the blanket statement "rap is pointless" since you made a valid point. Little bit of relativism here. However my personal criticism stands but should merely reflect my opinion, so try not to take it too harshly.

Personally I'm used to people not liking music that I do. It doesn't offend me. In fact some music I listen to, such as Plaid, is just flat out quirky and really isn't all that great musically but I still enjoy listening to it. Just suites my fancy, no need to try and explain or justify it. There's certainly no need to get defensive about it.

Not sure I don't watch it, but hell yeah it will be played in 30 years. Classic rock is not the end all/be all of music. It is awesome, I love listening to it, but I also love listening to some Mogwai and I really don't see how the melodies in Helicon 1 would become less powerful 30 years from now. There is more out there than pop, but pop can be great too. You old fogies need to open your ears and minds a little, realize that yes music has gone somewhere since Bowie and Floyd, it didn't all of the sudden die.

exactly why i don't think anyone should every judge someone else's taste in music. there's a difference between trying to enlighten someone to new forms of music and being a snob/jerk about it (not that you were, but it happens here when music discussions take place).

like i said above, no offense taken.

How can you say this is a fair or accurate poll? First of all, you can only pick one kind of music, and second of all, you put some subgenres of rock and not others.

/me throws hands into the air

Fvck the radio, fvck MTV, and fvck whatever they played at the Super Bowl. That is just manufactured crap, I agree. But believe it or not the 40 or so bands that are on rotation on whatever station you listen to do not make up the entirety of the musical community. I've said it a million times on here, if you want to find good music take some initiative and actually look for it. There is plenty good music out there of every possible kind you could think of being made, but no you won't hear it on MTV. If you don't want to find good stuff then fine, but it's completely ignorant to think that music sucks these days based off of what you are spoon fed by the Big 5.
