Where do think all that classic rock was played 30 years ago, and will be played 30 years from now? Where do you think people heard it, so that it became popular in the first place? How else will you ever get movie footage of their concerts reproduced in DTS stereo and flawless DVD image? Obscure groups may be great, but will be forgotten if they never become somewhat popular to at least a cult following!

So you really don't give a sh!t about the music itself but rather the popularity?

I don't care if I'm the only one in the world that listens to them, I have a Six Parts Seven cd that I absolutely love and it will be no less great in 30 years whether they have a DVD out and are popular or not.

I'm saying I NEVER would have even listened to an album if I didn't know the artist existed! Not too hard to understand, is it?

And, I LOVE listening to classic music in all its flawless, remastered glory, complete with video. That just ain't gonna happen with cult bands. I know, because I like liked a lot of cult bands. All I have from them is noisy vinyl now...

And I'm saying that you have to go out and actually find the artists to know they exist, but the fact that you do not know of them does not make them any less great. Surely that is not too hard to understand either, is it?

Ain't gonna happen. Don't have the time or patience. It's bad enough when somebody tosses me a CD and says, "This is great, you gotta hear it!" Yeah, right...

I'll just stick with tried & true, unless something better catches my ear.

Awesome, that's fine. But realize that is also a huge difference than "music sucks nowadays".

for the poll, would you consider grunge to be a type of rock?

It's a mixture of other genres (metal, alternative, punk). I guess I would group it with rock before anything else.

[edit]

btw, i voted metal, then heavy metal (although I do like thrash, speed, and some death)

My favorie metal in General.
Thrash being my favorite. I also like Speed, Industrial, Black/Death, and Nu-Metal. Goth Metal I don't really like (HIM, for example). I don't like music with senseless screaming that doesn't resemble or contain some kind of singing. In my opinion it's just as bad as rap, just screaming the lyrics at you instead.
And I like Hard Rock too. Less heavy, since I'm not always in the mood to listen to Metal.

Actually, I downloaded the new CDs by Otep and God Forbid.
