i have a good idea. Join the Marine Corps. They'll issue you an apt or pay you $1000 extra and tax free (on top of your paycheck) to live off base. They'll pay all of your tuition, and you can usually schedule classes ok with work. Theyre even flexible about work and classes. If you have to leave early to go to class, that's usually ok.

And you get paid pretty decently, too, considering you'd probably be working at McDonalds otherwise...

It depends on the job you get, and if you have roommates.

Working 20 hrs at minimum wage, you would gross only $442 per month. 20 hrs at $8/hr, you would gross $688... so it depends on whether or not you made decent money, and could get a really cheap studio or one bedroom or get a nice 2 bedroom w/a dependable roommate.

If you have no other significant payments each month (credit cards, car payment), you could swing it, but you'd be hungry.

You need to get a sugar momma to pay for everything...

So how are your finances looking?

Take out a few student loans. Don't splurge on them. Just enough to get by. And get a part-time job too.

As far as getting an apartment, it usually involves
1) credit check
2) salary
3) deposit. if bad credit or insufficient credit history, your deposit may be bigger. Most places want 1-month's deposit.
4) references. From previous rentals.
5) If your credit is insufficient and your income may be on the low end, the leasing company may request a co-signer.

Pick the situation that will cost you less so you can focus on school. I had to work the last couple years in college to cover apt, food, entertainment, etc, and it made things a lot harder than they needed to be. Living in San Francisco didn't help either, so I had to work UPS graveyard + overtime in order to make rent. I was always tired and my grades dropped...Transferring to Phoenix really helped, because it was so much cheaper, I got a decent part time job which covered expenses.

Anyways, the point is, don't make things too hard on yourself. You're going to college to get an education...being cool and getting your own apt should be a low priority. Now go clean your room!

student loans. if your parents aren't paying, you can't really work part time and go to school. you'd have to work full time to make it work.

Did your parents help you with housing?
