I got into UAB with a 1.94 and a 850 on my SAT. WWHEJASDF

1.94?! WTF

Nah I had a 2.98 unweighted in IB/AP and a 30 ACT. I wouldn't be suprised if someone got into UAB with those scores though.

Of course, if you're black, indian, female or any other underrepresented minority, you need to have a pulse. Yup, just a pulse.

:D

When I went, Indians (East Indians) were overrepresented. And I knew other Indians with 3.8s and 1400+ scores that didn't get in...

However I knew two hispanic dudes that got full rides + stipend despite only having only a 3.6 and a 3.5 - and ACT scores of 26. :disgust:

She doesn't spend any of her money on us

Why the hell should she spend $ on students? I can see like $5 for candy for like Halloween or something but what are you expecting?

Ok, if you don't do projects or papers, what the hell can she be testing you on? Are you just not taking notes? This class sounds like a cakewalk. What subject is it?

It's history, we take notes every day, see, her tests are so hard because she weighs things so much. For example, the last test we had was 70 points, there were 10 vocab words and 1 essay, each vocab word was worth 5 points and the essay 20, in each chapter we get tested on there are about 30-50 words/names, I got two vocab words wrong and 5 points off my essay, that brings me down to a C, which is outrageous since that is 25% of my grade. She should spend money for making handouts and study guides and other things which might help get our grades up(there's no paper in the school, the teachers have to bring their own). I don't know why I stay in this school, my mom says its one of the top public schools in the nation, but I bet 1:1,000,000 people have heard of it (Boston Latin School).

That class sounds piss easy and it's your own fault for getting that C. Memorizing 30-50 vocab words is not a hard thing to do - maybe a couple days of studying MAX, and it's an easy 25% of your grade.

How is this weighted GPA is calculated? We only have unweighted but I was wondering how it is done so i could figure out waht i would have if it was weighted...

So we have IB classes. Is an "A" worth 4.5 or 5? A-, B+? Never got anything below a B+...

I got into UCLA for electrical engineering with high school gpa of about 4.2 (thanks to AP/Honors classes) and SAT of 1300, along with some academic and extra curicular activities. I also got accepted to UC Berkeley, USC, UC Davis, and San Diego - all for electrical engineering. That was over 5 years ago. It's much more competitive now due to the amount of applications colleges are receiving.

youre a freshmen, your grades now dont even count that much, and secondly you have 3 years to improve upon it.

but if you were to finish with a 2.7 and average corresponding test grades, id say you could get into a 2nd or 3rd tier school... something like a second rate state school

something like San Jose State University, if you are from california nad are familiar wiht it...something of that caliber

if you graduate from high school, then there's a college that will accept you (might not be the most prestigious, though).

This term we had 4 grades. I got an F on one test and 2 B's and one C on my other tests. She says because she has 130 students, that she won't grade projects and she won't give papers because she knows we all download them off the internet. Since September we have taken notes every day, while she lectures us, we have done nothing else. She doesn't spend any of her money on us, instead she drives the nicest car in the parking lot (BMW 5 series brand new). The thing that makes me most mad is that, the school is laying off almost all new teachers, and since she has worked there 10 years, she will be the last to go. The new teachers are the ones that spend time and effort to create projects and spend their salary on us, while she rides around in her BMW all day(literally she does, she tells us she takes one day off every term to get away from all the work). It's just not fair!

You're in for a wake-up when you get to college. Many times I've had classes with 100+ students where our grades were based on 2 tests. A mid-term and a final.

He's jsut a freshman guys, ease up a bit. He's probably 13 and thinking about college already... Good for him... But I agree that he shouldn't place the blame on the teacher. I'm sure everyone has had the one hard teacher they can remember, but it's what you do with the experience that matters...

Here's some news for you though... I don't think any college looks at your freshman year. So, there you go. You might want to check on individual colleges and see if they do, but I doubt it.

My cousin got 1300 SAT, 4.0 GPA and joined all kind of school crap clubs but didn't get accepted in UC Irvine, UCLA, ect. Now she has to settle for State College. BTW she is Asian.

UM 'mandates' a B+ average (around a 3.6). But don't blame your history teacher for your own mistakes. There are kids in your class who did better than you. If you tried as hard as they did, you'd be well on your way to a good GPA.
