What IT position do you hold?

IT Manager (at least that's what it says on the business cards they gave me). I was hired because I've been best friends with my bosses son since the 5th grade. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have this job right now.

I am a part time sysadmin at my lab. I got it by being here as an operator with more PC, network and hardware experience than many of the full time admins.

One day it will be my full time job. I just need an opening to apply for.

IT Assistant at a law firm...

I deal with just about anything that has some sort of processor in it.

hi everyone, im a college student and getting an "AAS ? ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE IN COMPUTER NETWORKING SYSTEMS"

are there any tips or advice you could give me or other people like me?

i've been told that an internship is a must whether its pay or not

Systems Admin. I got it by applying to a newspaper ad. I sent my resume in, got a call for a interview, did that, then got called for a telephone interview the next week. then 3 weeks later was faxed an offer.

truthfully i really dont know how i got this job. there were other people that were way more qualifed than me and this was in 1999 when the IT market was red hot.

when i first started i just had to deal with a novell and NT network and a sql db and a few custom in house apps.

now i have to deal with the corp exchange servers, a whole lot more sql servers, progress servers, unix (still suck at it), veritas cluster manager, legato, ADP payroll computers/db (no data entry just keeping working), Crystal Enterprise, 10 Citrix servers. Helpdesk tickets, power management in 3 large server rooms. working with the developers and testers. maintaining the testing lab.

I am well paid but I need a raise. this is a lot of crap to keep on top of.

Get hands on experience either at home or from your school lab. Dont BS your resume. Be confident. I'd also recommend getting advanced cert's from Unix, Sun, Checkpoint as a baseline and knowing your stuff.

PC Technician, contracted through a temp agency and am now full time.

What is your job description like? Do you just fix/troubleshoot broken computers and remove viruses and spyware?

I do those, I answer help calls and emails surrounding various issues from network connectivity (inside and outside the building) to software assistance (how to merge lines from Excel into Word, for example) to changing passwords, etc. I replaced a bunch of old 15" and 17" beige/yellow monitors with some nicer 17" LCDs this past week. I set up new PCs and laptops, mostly by ZenWorks imaging. I also try to install and fix printers. I generally try to resolve whatever issue(s) a user may bring to us, and escalate (refer it to an admin) if need be.

I wish we could get some LCDs in here.....we would but we have so many people that would fuss about "but they have a better monitor". So we don't even bother to order LCDs, and that is the only reason.

well as of now me and a friend of mine have built computers for friends and i've also cleaned a few up that were loaded with spyware and viruses

is that really something i should put on a resume`?

it wasn't through any kind of company though

I would not put that on your resume.

Consultant. I do a bit of everything for various businesses. For some clients I am "the" network administrator and for other clients I'm only invovled in special projects.

Got started three years ago as an intern; I just applied for the job.

I was considering trying that, but the timing of this damn anti-harassment training just sucks... 😀
