How can you live with your parents and go to college? All the fun stuff at college happens after hours...live in the dorms for a year, see if you like it, if you do stay, if you don't get an apartment.

And take lots of roadtrips.

The four years you spend AT COLLEGE will be the best four years of your life! That's all I really have to say. I actually miss those days.

Meh, I 'grew up' too fast for "college life".

I mean, all the kids seemed to want to do was weed, beer, parties, and sex.

Seemed like high school-level maturity run amok, and it just didn't suit me. (FWIW, I bought a house and worked full time through college. Granted, ran out of funds and energy at the Associates Degree instead of Bachelor's, while I would have preferred BOTH, but....meh, just couldn't stand the kids, anyway.)

So you're, what, at about age 80 maturation-wise? Because I don't know many people younger than that that don't want weed, beer, parties, and sex.

being a dormer for 3 years and some months, that is the advice from me.

I always felt as if the commuters were isolated from the heart of college life.

I myself was never a commuter (spent 3 years in the dorms and 1 year in a dorm-like, off-campus apartment complex), but I never saw them hanging around after classes or going to any of the great parties.

Meaningless sex = overrated, college parties = overrated, beer = nice, weed = same effect as beer, but illegal. So, why?

I dunno what age I'd guess people would grow out of most of that - 30? 40? I dunno.

And yet, all four are still a hell of a lot of fun. So much that we have parents of students at parties up here all the time. Given the chance, I don't think most people would grow out of it until they....died.

I was so excited to get out of my parents house and move to another city.

I made two mistakes.

First I went from living in bumsville to Toronto. Secondly I moved into my own house and lived by myself.

The effects of new city and new school were magnified coming home and night and having no one around to kick it with. I couldn't stand my college experience :(

It got better over the next years of college but damn was that first year ever crappy :/

Go to college in a nice smaller city where all your housing is nearby to the school along with bars. My sister did that and her college experience was by far >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> mine.

when people say live on your own, they are actually saying live off your parents money away from home. When you have to pay for everything yourself and things aren't handed to you it sucks big time. Working and going to school blows.

to me, it's all about just bumping elbows with all kinds of different people (girls)

I don't even waste my time making friends with guys. Dating is a contact sport and you can't make better contact than on a college campus.

the sex I go after isn't "meaningless." the drinking is moderated and best with company you're already close with..... parties are a waste (or only a once-a-semester deal at that) unless I'm hosting, and even then, they're private affairs... you're ripping yourself off not spending these years exploring yourself... which you can do without pot, unsafe sex with people you don't know and drinking games.

:D

No it doesent. I have money for whatever I want and live the life of a playboy compared to anyone else at my school I know. Girls see that and what it means about your character.

where do you work and what kind of hours.

Working enough hours to pay for my rent/food/crap/books/tuition along with going to school sucks my time dry.

definitely live on campus. the parties, the friends, the guys (well, for me at least) -- all of that is something you won't get if you live at home.

Well since you want stories, here goes.

One night, me and 2 friends (we'll call them Marty and Bob) decided it'd be a fun time for some Kentucky Gentlemen Whiskey. So we're taking shots, chasing it with coke, and we're all at about 10 shots when Bob dares me to take a shot outta my suicide shooter. My suicide shooter is actually a tall, 5-shot shot glass. So I'm like sure, what the hell. Then he does it, and Marty does it. I'd like to say that was a bad move for the 3 of us. We had some more whiskey, and eventually Bob suggested we look for girls. Bob also suggests we take off our shirts as we do so. So we're traversing 7 floors, walking through the halls, and talking to all the girls who have their doors open. Got a few numbers, but no action that night for us.

So eventually we say fvck it, and go back to the floor lounge. Marty is having a rough time, so he's on the couch puking into the lounge garbage pail. Me and my friend are chucking packets of ramen noodles across the lounge, and eventually a game of ultimate frisbee starts up in the lounge with a bunch of other people on the floor. Yes, ultimate frisbee in the lounge at 3:00AM in the morning. On a Wednesday night, drunk. Eventually, everyone decides to play a game of underwear Twister. Not a bad idea, especially since this redhead I had met earlier in the day was playing.

So after that game ends, I'm walking around in my floor, and see one of my sober friends down on the girls side of the hall. I'm about 7 feet away from the open door of the redhead, and I shout out "Where's the firecrotch!" The guys like "Dude, shut up, your right there!" I'm like "What, where's the firecrotch!" He just waves me away, and I go back to my room. Next day I wake up and slap my forehead for being an idiot. Went down to the redheads room, apologized, and she said she thought it was funny. We eventually got to know each other a bit better later in the month ;) Poor Marty was up all night puking in the lounge. Bob wound up walking back to his dorms without his shirt and shoes on. All and all, a good fvcking night.

And after that novel, I ain't typing no more. I woulda told you a different story about the floor Toga or Dance parties, but I don't want to get banned.

How are the meal plans and Resnet? Edit: And are they strict about underaged drinking?

I'm having the time of my life. It's almost two years now since I moved out of my parent's place and got my own and I'm a Junior in college. I just love doing my own thing, I have a great job, and meeting people is fun. I have had so much fun partying and just having a good time. I'm not too big into the drug scene or one night stands, but I just love getting trashed and having big parties. :D

Everyone needs to experience it, but some things aren't meant for certain people.

Meal plans == teh suck. I never got it, but this is from every person I've talked to around here. But, YMMV.

Resnet == YMMV. I used to work for the NOC here at my school and they were alright, just had a lot of problems with people spreading worms around the network and stupid people trying to set up their connection. We were also really strict on downloading from file sharing programs.

Drinking on campus == not smart. The cops around here will bust you in a matter of minutes, plus there's the chance of being thrown on probation or getting expelled. They are very strict, so if you wanna drink, you go off campus.

Again, this is how it is at University of Central Florida. So, YMMV depending on the school.

The food varies by college. At Univ. of Maryland: CP the middle meal plan is more than enough. The food is pretty good too, but an easy way to gain weight. Salads are KEY at Maryland. You can get a HUGE salad for like 4 dollars with plenty of fixings. All in all it's a good setup.

As far as underage drinking is concerned, just don't flaunt it. I've drank in my room and in the dorms countless number of times. As long as you keep your door closed, they really don't care. On the weekends, you can basically be as loud and wild in the halls as you want, just don't have an alcoholic beverage outside of a room. It is not hard getting anything up to your room. There are plenty of times when people bring stereos out into the hall, we throw on some hip hop, and everyone gets down.

If you go to the frat streets (Knox, College, etc) the cops usually don't break up parties unless there are a ridiculous number of people. They just try to be annoying and blast their lights and sirens. When the cops come around, all underages just drop their cups.

And in college, you will be drinking some of the most disgusting piss imaginable. Natty, Busch, the Beast, Popov, Zelko, Georgi, Kentucky Gentlemen, the list goes on and on.

EDIT: As far as RESNET is concerned, there are a bunch of worms going around. DC++ is your best friend. Unless you VNC, you cannot use programs such as BitTorrent, Kazaa, etc. The packet shaper takes care of that. There isn't too much lag when playing online games as a result of the packet shaper, but sometimes there are spikes.

If you guys have any other questions, PM me and I'll talk to you on AIM.
