Also, what do you plan on doing with your old system?

Here's my next "hopeful" upgrade for Q1 '01

1) AMD760MP based dual processor board (either Asus or Abit), prolly ~$200
2) Dual Duron 700's for about $55 each & overclock them to 900MHz+
3) DDR SDRAM prices should be dropping by Q1, so I could probably get 256MB PC 2100 for ~$275

So for about $585 I could have a kicking dually system. I could then sell my current setup (Processor, Arctic Circle, Abit KA7, and 256MB PC100) for around $300-$350. That would make out of pocket costs a more manageable $235 - $285.

Or you could stuff 'em in a new box and have a dedicated RC5 Cracker!! ;)

On your question, prolly can't wait for 760, need a PIII700/CUSL2 or a Duron/KT7, just can't decide which. And I promise not to start a poll on this.

WIN ME. Why? Win95 won't cut it for me with USB, AGP and AMD. How's that for ACRONYMS?!
Oh, yeah, I bust my SIII this week I think when I plugged it sloppily in on a crowded motherboard (could hear the creaking of flexing circuit lines...) Tried the RAGE FURY MAXX but it's terrible; no multi monitor or WIN2000 support. Just what are ATi doing?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DDR board
128mb or more PC2100
Thunderbird 800 or more

Probably around 450-500$ for that, then I also want a 45gb 75GXP and a 12/10/32 Plextor.. That's ~700...

Bleh, I need a job ;)

I have never owned an AMD based system, but I am going to make the transition once the 760 chipset hits the market around late Q4 I presume.

I plan to drop 600ish

Hercules 3D Prophet II MX Dual Display is my next upgrade.

After than an AMD760 board (Also Asus or ABit, though not MP) and Duron 700 or so, shooting for 900+ also

Edit: Actually I think I'm going to order a Plextor 12/10/32A CDRW sometime next week. I used to use my room mates CDRW, but I moved so I can't really use his anymore.

Oh gosh... nothing for a while.

Probably next gen AMD stuff in a DUally with 1GB of DDR on a 166Mhz (333Mhz) bus.

I will spend around $2000 around the end of the year.

New system to replace my current 350P2/V3/slow HD system.

When I upgrade, I like to see a major improvement all around.:)

Probably a 1.2 Ghz Athlon/10000rpm HD/next-gen video card/256megs DDR ram/killer 19" monitor. :)

I was going to get a g800 or something to replace my g400 but I think it will be something better. A new CPU maybe, new mobo maybe, new memmory maybe, new case maybe.

All because my bloody system is so foocking unstable that its probably going to reboot after 5 minutes.

I hate my computer :(:( arrrgg

;) I've got two threads discussing my upgrade.

I have 3 options:

1. Buy a PIII700, overclock it like the biatch it is.
2. Buy a Duron 600 and motherboard, do the same as above (noting the female dog)
3. Wait till the 760 comes out, and then follow step 2

I am currently running on a Celeron 333@450 w/ 128 RAM.

I just upgraded this week. AMD Thunderbird 1 GHz CPU and an Abit KT7 Motherboard w/RAID. Very impressive to say the least.

I was using an Abit BP6 with dual Celeron 500's... that was also a very nice setup. I can't wait for Dual Thunderbirds!!

I think I've shot my wad for this year, my current config is in sig. And I'm probably only gonna make a few changes between now & the summer of 2001.

1. I'll probably get a 19" monitor & migrate my Mag 17" to my kids machine.
2. I'll probably get one of those ata100 75g IBM drives.
3. Will definately upgrade my mem to Mush or Crucial to try to squeeze a few more mhz from the P3.
4. And highest priority, I'm looking forward to a new wireless lan product from 3com.

Then I guess it's time to sell off some of my desktop machines & start getting more notebooks.

prolly a 1.4ghz palamino around march or so..:D
maybe another 64mb of PC133 to round it out at 256mb:)

and NFS4... i think you should think of picking up those durons now... before those(if it is true) locked chips make it into the retail channel(not retail chips, but store bought)

one upgrade that i can't make now matter how much i try... broadband... can't get it, and damn it just sucks(don't say ISDN:|)

I was thinking the same thing...but sitting on two 900MHz capable chips for 3 months is pain!!! :) You also must take into account that I will be getting OEM versions of the Duron, and most warranties run out after 30 days.

Wanna pick up the Santa Cruz this week, still not sure if the price/quality over sb live value is worth it. Gotta find something to replace my aging tb montego I got over 2 years ago.

Almost the same as Eli up there...
DDR board
256mb PC2100
Thunderbird 800 or more
Some sorta gb 75GXP to replace my maxtor 15gb.

Well I'm pretty happy with my setup at the moment.

Looking at a TV card (with that digital VCR stuff). ~ £60
Also a nice phat IBM hard disk. Probably a 60GB 75GXP when they come down in price to ~ £200

Oh and a 21"+ monitor. ~ £600

Yikes. I just built my new box :

T-Bird 900
128mb Corsair CAS3
ABIT KT7-LAMERAID
Leadtek Winfast GeforceGTS2 w/64mb
Soundblaster Live!
IBM 75gxp 30gb
3com EtherlinkII PCI
yadda yadda...

And now with Via's new 266 chip, DDR ram support, man...
I'm gonna have to drop the cash for 256mb of DDR.

I'm really salivating at that new Promise IDERAID controller too.
Thinking I could get away with two more 75gxp's and make a killer
level 0 stripe.

mmmm.... striping.

FWIW, OEM Duron's have dropped below $50 on Pricewatch. Pretty soon the HS/Fan will cost more than the CPU!:(

Just upgraded a couple months ago but I'm probably going to be getting some Klipsch Promedias soon... and probably a DDR motherboard w/Tbird or whatever is out by that time.
All of this depends on if I get a job tho... ;)

Well, the problem with 760MP is that it'll require win2k to run two processors. And I had way too many problems with it to try it again. So I'm thinking:

AMD760
One of the newer AMD cores (prolly 100MHz one with 512K cache, and hopefully I can OC it to 133MHz)
256DDR Ram

The rest of my system looks decent, so it should be ok for another 12 months.
