What Is Your Favourite War Movie(s)?

Since Remembrance Day (Veterans Day) is on Monday, I thought I would bring up this discussion topic.

In no particular order:

Patton - 1970
Sahara - 1943
Red Ball Express - 1952
Saving Private Ryan - 1998
Platoon - 1986

There are others that I enjoy like a few John Wayne movies.

Too many to list, probably my favorite movie genre

The Longest Day
The Guns of Navarone
Das Boot
Stalag 17
The Dirty Dozen
Kelly's Heroes
Dr Strangelove
The Hurt Locker
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
The Great Escape
Bridge on the River Kwai

Probably think of a bunch more 2 seconds after hitting enter.

Saving Private Ryan takes #1 for me for sure.

#2 is probably We Were Soldiers.

I also really like Lone Survivor, although it's a lot more far fetched than the others.

There are some damned good movies listed in this thread. I rarely watch war movies though. Saw too much of the real thing to be entertained by hollywood war.

Are you serious? That's incredibly accurate; they went to great lengths to ensure it was and Marcus Luttrell was on-hand to assist in the filmmaking.

I'll go with:

Band of Brothers
The Pacific
Saving Private Ryan
Lone Survivor
12 Strong (though I'm not sure how accurate this is; I actually have the book it's based on but haven't read it yet)
Patton
Gettysburg
Generation Kill

That's all I can think of right now.

I'm talking about how the dudes got shot like 20 times and were acting like they were barely scraped.

Eh, I dunno, I still think it's quite factual. They didn't get shot 20 times but yes I think all were multiple times. People can certainly keep fighting after several gunshots. I'm pretty sure that's described in Lt. Col. Grossman's "On Combat" and "Deadly Force Encounters" by Loren Christensen. Both are great reads, especially Grossman's.

I guess mine are...

Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Now
The Deer Hunter
Last of the Mohicans (reminded of it from a post above, even though I just watched it again a week ago; I'm not sure if I would consider it a true "war" movie)
Paths of Glory
Dead Presidents
Jacob's Ladder (if Last of the Mohicans counts 😛)

I've never seen Saving Private Ryan, and I think I watched the Thin Red Line when it came out but I've forgotten all of it.

Some favorites

Aue Revoir Les Enfantes

Taigukgi
Thin Red Line

Deer Hunter
Black Hawk Down
Bridge over the River Kwai
Das Boot
Dr Strangelove or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Full Metal Jacket
All Quiet on the Western Front
Casablanca
Kellys Heroes
Lawrence of Arabia
Stalingrad
The Longest Day
Idi I smotri (Come and See)
Tora Tora Tora
The Mortal Storm
The Great Dictator
A Very Long Engagement
Things to Come
Fear and Desire

Saving Private Ryan is probably my top.

I watched Danger Close and Midway this week. Both were pretty decent.

If Cold War counts as war, I'll say Hunt for Red October.

Then FMJ and Act of Valor. The scene where they're extracting the team with two riverine craft and blasting the cartel guys with miniguns is pretty awesome.

i consider 7 Samurai to be a war movie.

Platoon also pretty damn good.
..maybe Lawrence Of Arabia?

isn't Starship Troopers a war movie?

Enemy Mine is defo a war movie. But that's probably not what you meant.

Inglourious Basterds

Surprised its not on anyones list.

Rescue Dawn is another great war based movie, same for Behind Enemy Lines, Jarhead and Monuments Men.
