This is the most civil post of your I have ever seen. I really enjoyed reading it.

I simply must disagree with you though. Shira has the ability to clearly articulate any point he wants to make, right or wrong. Moonbeam attempts to conceptualize everything. No matter how simplistic the topic. Since there are no other examples to be found, one can only assume why...

Actually, most of my posts are civil, in fact, most of them more civil than that one.

I'm just known for writing the same way as i speak to my men and trust me, if i actually DID say what i say to those lphrs spending fruh eating their bloody twats i'd get banned in a fucking second.

I have a feeling about people, i know that you are tippytoeing until you can get a fucking headlock, i know that Moonbeam doesn't really give a sheit, he'll state his mind no matter what and i love that about him, besides, his humour is my kind of humour.

Now if i could just remember the name of that stupid arse medical student who was a catholic and claimed to have studied biology while disagreeing with it.. fuck, that will bug me all night and i have somewhere to be an people to shoot in the morning.

This reminds me that I hate it when somebody lacking reading comprehension accuses somebody else of being inarticulate, not that I'm saying you necessarily did that here.

Instead, let me just ask you what you mean when you say I conceptualize everything no matter how simplistic the topic. I have no idea whatsoever what you are saying here and the implication you draw from it is equally arcane.

Let me just be me here for a sec and I'm sure I can conceptualize your post for you so you will have an example:

In my opinion Shara argues like a lawyer or a detective and lays out logically tight and reasoned text of great quality. He appeals to thought and reason that demolishes folk who can't think or reason, but my Dad told me something when I was small that I will never forget:

"A fool convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."

In short, and we see it all the time, the same old arguments and bigotry that have been dispensed with thousands of times keep rearing their ugly heads. There are millions and millions of folk who are completely immune to reason.

Take the folk who voted twice for Bush as an example.

So, while you can teach folk who are open and reasonable with reason and logic, you can't reach the distrusting at all. A fool is completely protected by being a fool. A fool is a person who has been shamed for being open and reasonable. He will never go there again.

A fool can't learn until he unlearns. I like to try and deal with things from that end.

Those who choose to be ignorant of reality will protect themselves and remain ignorant of reality?

I wrote a lot more, especially since you argued GW 04 which wasn't about ignorance, it was about the collective fear.

I'd like to say Obama is better but from what i have seen, it's more of the same with a slight twist.

I agree with Acocatto's statement. Logic is not the only road to truth.

Observation, testing and making conclusions based on reality is the way to reach truth.

Believing in something that might not even bearing a resemblance to the original text from thousands of years ago that might have been written by people who could not even write....

So, either that or someothing that is observable, testable and stands all tests we know of...

Whaddayaknow, i'll go with reality over fantasy.

Oh, and it's not Acocatto, that would just be wierd.

He, who pretended to be a she from the beginning, is an avocado confetti.

See, like with an avocado, that seed of substance was removed and the rest made into confetti.

The worst most annoying thing to me, and when I know an argument is over, is when the other person refuses to acknowledge something that is very obvious or ignore certain points. There is no point going on with it at that point.

This - and my favorite... When someone makes the claim that THEY HAVE THE PEOPLE ON THEIR SIDE AND THEY HAVE AWAKEN....

"That we agree to disagree" ('cause your arguement makes mine look like crap and I want to bail before I have to admit defeat).

Hehe, I only hoped, I guess, that you could provide an example, because I am always, at least in my own deluded opinion, open to a good debate. I agree that any probable examples would doubtless wind up in a wall of warmed over text and I am aware of what kinds of things you mean. I don't think of your comments as an attempt to escape.

I do think too that if I am almost as smart as you think I am vastly smarter than I am.

In fact it is probable that I project on you my own feelings of inferiority and intellectual competitiveness, feeling as I do so stupid.

It may, therefore, be my own lack of confidence in my own thinking that causes me to flee to the superiority of feeling as the real source of knowing. But while I may doubt the superiority of feeling, I don't doubt it much.

I use the example, I think you will recall, of a father explaining to a son, that one day his attitude to girls will change, and his contempt of them will turn into longing and fascination. A father knows this not because he is smart but because it's how his son came to be.

Furthermore, I was just thinking this morning about getting back my clown, but I don't really know how to do it. I don't know how to keep this stupid fuse talk from killing my posts, I don't know how to post pictures, and I don't know how to put a link inside a word or phrase. There's doubtless a bunch I don't know I don't know too.

Thanks for your kind post.
Look what I have for you:

http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab302/shirasuwanum/MB8Clown.jpg

It's a tad small, but those old fusetalk avatars were smaller than our new ones. In any event, it's the authentic clown - the real you.

You just need to upload this image as a custom avatar to your anandtech profile:

1. Copy that url. (Be careful to copy the full url from the website (not the link here with ... in it).
2. Go to Edit CP (upper left of Anandtech screen) > Edit Avator , then select the "Use Custom Avatar" radio button.
3. Use option 1 and paste that link into the space, then select Save Changes.

Voila! You are your old self again.

Edit: Why "MB8"? Well, look at the time elapsed between the post and this latest edit. I'm a perfectionist. Sigh.

I’ll remember forever,
When I was but three,
Mama, who was clever,
Remarking to me;
If, son, when you’re grown up,
You want ev’rything nice,
I’ve got your future sewn up
If you take this advice:

Be a clown, be a clown,
All the world loves a clown.
Act a fool, play the calf,
And you’ll always have the last laugh.
Wear the cap and the bells
And you’ll rate with all the great swells
If you become a doctor, folks’ll face you with dread,
If you become a dentist, they’ll be glad when you’re dead,
You’ll get a bigger hand if you can stand on your head,
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown.

Be a clown, be a clown,
All the world loves a clown.
Be a crazy buffoon
And the demoiselles’ll all swoon.
Dress in huge, baggy pants
And you’ll ride the road to romance.
A butcher or a baker, ladies never embrace,
A barber for a beau would be a social disgrace,
They all’ll come to call if you can fall on your face,
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown.

Be a clown, be a clown,
All the world loves a clown.
Show ‘em tricks, tell ‘em jokes
And you’ll only stop with top folks.
Be a crack jackanapes
And they’ll imitate you like apes.
Why be a great composer with your rent in arrears,
Why be a major poet and you’ll owe it for years?
When crowds’ll pay to giggle if you wiggle your ears?
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown.

Be a clown, be a clown,
All the world loves a clown.
If you just make ‘em roar
Watch your mountebank account soar.
Wear a painted mustache
And you’re sure to make a big splash.
A college education I should never propose,
A bachelor’s degree won’t even keep you in clo’es,
But millions you will win if you can spin on your nose.
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown.

Be a clown, be a clown,
All the world loves a clown.
Be a poor silly ass
And you’ll always travel first-class,
Give ‘em quips, give ‘em fun,
And they’ll pay to say you’re A-1.
If you become a farmer, you’ve the weather to buck,
If you become a gambler, you’ll be stuck with your luck,
But jack you’ll never lack if you can quack like a duck
(Quack, quack, quack, quack)
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown

Hey, Moonbeam.

I see you picked up the image. But notice that the clown is riding a little high in that image. The latest image is - I think - really nicely placed. It's up to you.

Observation, testing and making conclusions based on reality is the way to reach truth.

Truth is found in God. God is found in the Word of God.

"Observation, testing and making conclusions based on reality" will lead to, at best, partial truth.

Computers are a wonderful physical device. But there is more, much more, that is hidden to the eye, ear, smell and touch. Without knowledge of the code (every jot and tittle) they are a snarled nightmare.

brick wall prostylization...

ahhh... are we being led to the well? i feel that swirling sensation as the question becomes the answer becomes the question...

i nominate moonbeam for self fulling post of the year...

The wall of text that is less an answer or rebuttal than a personal manifesto written in the third person so they can't be held accountable for their own beliefs.

"You know, I never thought of things that way. I'm not sure I agree with you but you make an interesting point."

Oh wait that never happens...

While it is not my favorite response, I find that there is deafening silence from the opposition when they are presented with a balanced and reasonable look at a subject.

Example:

thread on Health Care systems in other countries

Aside from a single crazed and irrational response that was quickly shot down, there was virtually no feedback or policy discussion from the insane fearmongering right-wingers.

Forum member Shadow9d9 noted: "Notice how the typical trolls here avoid threads like this like the plague?"

Why?

Because the ignorant trolls here had nothing to run with.

Rarely happens, anyway. I recall typing something to that effect many years ago, to moonbeam. 🙂
