What is your favorite computer game EVER?

this game was mad e awhileback.. fit on a 1.44 floppy it was called Out of this World or something.... it played kinda' like abe's odesyey.. it was AMAZING.. they fit this game.. that had cutsences and all these levsls.. on a 1.44 floppy... it seemed like a 30 meg game at the time.

it was out of this world or another world, maybe...had it on amiga...and the second part, flashback...both of those games were so great for the time. i remember the begining to the first one where a car speeds into a garage, then the dude rides up an elevator or something and then sits down and something happens and you spawn in some wierd alien planet...that game rules

04. Monkey Island I (addiction to a point of insanity)
03. Prince of Persia (almost failed the high school entrance exams)
02. Gods (the game that proved that PCs graphics can beat Amiga straight up, also first game I played with a sound card)
01. Monkey Island II (i still have it on my HDD, enough said)

there are many others so I will mention them...
Fate of Atlantis

Another World was the first game, Flashback the second.
AW ruled, FB absolutely crushed everything, and still does IMO.

Loom, now thats one seriously great MF'ing game.

Myst, oh baby, in its time, it was soo soo cool.

Elite II, still playing it on my Amiga, oh how I love it.

Chaos Engine, played it on my Amiga so damn much, senseless violence, but damn it was fun.

And then this one game, I cant even remember its name anymore, a copter sim for the Mac, where you flew around in a big city consisting of white skyscrapers, and the mission was to blow away a flying dowhacky, damn I loved that game so much 🙂

And of course, the mother of all blood and action, Doom I

A few more I thought of.

Freespace 2, the first was so fscking good, and the second even better.

WarCraft 2 multiplayer, oh thats almost better than sex 🙂

favorite ever? That is a tough one.

Wizardy 1
Zork 1,2,3
Bard's Tale 1 and 2
Might & Magic 1,2
Ultima 4
Warcraft 2
Ultima Underworld 1 & 2
Xcom
Heroes of Might & Magic 2
Ultima Online (addiction I haven't quit yet)
Everquest (addiction I had to quit)
Thief 1 and 2
System Shock 2

Had to list all these, sorry. Impossible to compare from the early 80's to now-a-days except for through fond memories.

I'll dig back into time.

My personal fav has to be star control 2. Even with the cruiser bug and knowing where to go it was a great game.

Gatsby

Star Control was my favorite. It fit on a 1.44 meg floppy, and worked on the lame computers in the school lab. We used to play it instead of doing our Pascal programming. Melee combat!!

I have to say the Quest for Glory series, although I haven't played part 5 yet.
Part 1 was called Hero's Quest, So you want to be a Hero? But Sierra had to rename it because of some board game.

HOW I LOVED PART 1 REALLY

And on the next place? Sam & Max Hit the road, they are too cool to be true.

DOOM, DOOM2 and now Quake3 Arena. I might have enjoyed Quake and Quake2 more had I had a real 3D card and a faster system when I was playing them...

FPS: Duke Nukem 3D. This is the ultimate when playing in co-op mode with another person.

FPS, online: Quake the original -- download the patch, get Gamespy and you're ready to play. CTF with the grapple was *amazing*.

RTS: I'd have to give it to Starcraft. Warcraft II was good, but Starcraft was better, though more unbalanced. But the little things like chopping away at trees to make more room for your little civilization was great in WII. 🙂

Racing: Wacky Wheels 3D. It's a terrific go-kart-with-weapons game with optional split-screen or modem/LAN connection modes.

Flight: TIE Fighter. Excellent gameplay, and the story really made you a believer in the work of the Empire. It never felt so good to be that bad. 😛

Other: Solar Winds. This was one of Epic's first games, and it's still making them money.

I miss the days of those good ol' games. Only Asheron's Call has dug anywhere as deep into my heart as the above. 🙂

I know I'm kind of alone on this, but my favorite games are SWAT 3 and Rogue Spear. It seems, realism is something not wanted in gaming, though.

And for consoles:

Mario Cart on the N64, man what fun it is to play that game with your friend late at night. probably the best game ever.

Starcraft, especially in multiplayer 😛 It beats every RTS game i've seen so far...
Theme hospital rocked too BTW 🙂

THE best game has to be Half life. I mean cmon, the story was like reading a book, the graphics were like watching a movie. And the sound was like being in a theatre.
And I know there are at least 1000 Counter-Strike junkies that probably dont even seee this post because they are playing right this minute. Best multi-player game of all time too.
And for whoever said realism isnt appreciated, what do you know about having to aim at the chest because the recoil of the gun jerks up towards the head. Or shooting in burst because the gun recoils too much when you hold the trigger down?

Best game: Half Life: Counter-Strike nuff said

Crush, Crumble, and Chomp

If anyone else remembers this game, it was probably the first real time strategy game. Played on an atari 800. You choose your monster (godzilla, sea monster, flying monster), then choose your city to attack.

The only sucky part was it had to be loaded from a cassette drive and about 50% of the time it bombed before it finished loading.

Well, I'd have to say, despite the many games I have played in my lifetime, Unreal has taken up most of my time, and now that Unreal Tournament has been out for a bit, it's quickly catching up to Unreal. Not too many other games have had that much replay value with me. Also, that old game that came on floppies was called Out of this World, Another World was when the game was transferred to 3DO I believe, but on the PC it was Out of this World. I only got to play the demo I downloaded, but it was a great first 3 stages that I got to play.
