A-10 and F-14. i can't decide... the A-10 is just brute force, a tank with wings so to speak. I have loved F-14's since my first airshow when i was little, watching them do a flyby with their wings swept. Plus Phoenix missiles are a bonus ;) not to mention it's big for a fighter, especially a carrier based one, and i love big things(including my crown vic :D)

The P-38J Lightning and the P-47D Thunderbolt. The P-38 because it's legendary (Japanese pilots were warned that to attack a P-38 was suicide). The P-47 since it was really the first ground-attack fighter. Both planes were huge, overbuilt monsters that could outrun just about everything in the sky.

What is your favorite aircraft, either military, commercial, or civilian.

I'm tossing my hat in for the F22 and the new Euro Fighter. Can't decide between the two. They're both awesome. :D

yes, the F22 is a great plane, 1st in my opinion, the f/a 18 comes in at 2nd place

I picked looks/features, cause unless you're in a blackbird all my extra missiles and mumbo jumbo can take out your power, speed, and looks any day!

Those and the F14s.... The F14 is a powerhouse and is a perfect carrier craft because of its high speeds, maneuverability, and payloads. The SuperHornet just can't compare. The SuperHornet is more of a multi-function aircraft.

ZV, you probably already know this but..

The P47 was designed as a high altitude fighter. It excelled in the ground attack role.
The P38 was designed as a short range interceptor. It excelled in the long range missions in the Pacific.
The P51 was designed as a low level fighter for the British. It excelled in the long range high altitude escort role.

Sometimes you wonder how we did as well as we did in WWII. ;)

If you like the P38 try and find Martin Caiden's book Fork-Tailed Devil. It's the best history of a fighter plane that I have read.

Give me either a P-47 or an A-10. I don't care if it's slow and ugly....I just want it to be a flying tank.

Read Thunderbolt by Robert S. Johnson. Good book on a pilot from Oklahoma and his P47 experiances.

The P47 wasn't that 'slow' after the installed the paddle blade propellors on them.

Trivia. What was the US plane from WWII that also flew in VietNam?

The only one that I know was the A-26

It flew in WWII in both the European and Pacific theaters, Korea and VietNam.

No, the one he's talking about is a fighter plane. I've seen it but even I can't remember what it is. Looks kinda like the P51.

Looks like the Corsair flew in Vietnam also. Not sure if they were flying when the US got really involved there, but apparently the French were using them.
