I was going to be really disappointed if this wasn't the first reply. Thanks.

If the controls aren't simple and reliable enough to learn to a mostly unconscious level, you can never shift your attention on the real core concepts of fighting like timing, distance and predicting your opponent. The interface's most important job is to get out of the way. I don't see how an "AI driven" input system would help at all. It sounds like something that'd steal a lot of your attention, like trying to play a FPS game with nothing but a TAC-2, with an AI guessing which of thousands of possible moves you actually mean with a particular combination of a digital directional input and two buttons. Fighting with the interface isn't fun.Originally posted by: Sureshot324

The problem with that is figuring out how the player is supposed to control the character. If you want realtime fighting and a tempo anywhere in the ballpark of Tekken, you simply can't give total control of a character to the player using standard (mouse, kb, stick, pad, wiistick) peripherals. Inputs need to be simple and limited. Check out Toribash and you'll have a good idea of what is keeping your dream game from being made.Originally posted by: Sureshot324
A fighting game like tekken, except there are no predetermined frames of animation. All animation is controlled by the physics engine.
I'm not saying the player would have full control of the fighter's body. It would have to partially be controlled by an AI.
Have fun!I checked out the trailer for Toribash and it looks pretty cool. I'm gonna try it out when I get home from work.

An RPG or MMORPG set fully in the medieval ages. Note that there would be no fantasy and magic which is common in most games that are based on this era. It would all be fully realistic. I envision players being able to serve as mercenaries in battles , wandering the land, rising to the rank of generals or even kings and commanding armies in gigantic battles and conquests.

Perhaps a good implementation of a game based on the old Steve Jackson game Car Wars? I suppose the engine would bear some resemblance to GTA, but less cartoonish and with vehicular weapons and ability to extensively upgrade your vehicle. It'd be a sandbox-plus-storyline style thing like Oblivion, set in a post-collapse US as Car Wars was. You design, mod, upgrade your vehicle, while travelling across this post-collapse landscape, entering autoduel tournaments, etc. Could be either single or MM player.
I suppose it would end up a bit like Fallout 3 crossed with GTA.
For some reason though games based on old tabletop games are almost always rubbish, with the sole exception of the BG implentation of D&D. Otherwise I'd also suggest a _good_ Call of Cthulu game.
