Ameesh,

That's an interesting "trick", but in Canada (and I assume the US), when you apply for a Visa they take into consideration all the credit cards you already have and what their limits are. They take your yearly income and current credit rating and figure out how much lendable credit you should be allowed. For example, if this total is $5000, and you already have a credit card with a $5000 limit, then you probably won't be able to get another one (even from a different financial institution). So, having a credit card is not necessarily a prerequisite to get another. I've found it's a lot easier to simply increase the credit limit on your current card then to apply for another.

Perhaps I could just be speaking out of my ass, though ;)

I think my Citibank Visa was 12000 befor I cancelled it. Other cards are between 7000-10000 now, but I really don't want them that high. They just keep raising it. I call every now and then and ask them to reduce it and they always seem shocked :Q

$19,000. My mother cosigned for my first card when I was 16 in order for me to buy computer parts for my computer business. Over the years, they just keep increasing it. I've been told by several companies that I have an exceptional credit rating as I already have 3 cards.

My Visa limit is $9500 and the wifes is $7500. I also have a card on her account. Each year they raise it a grand or so. We only use her card as we get airline miles with it.

I have 1 of each (canadian cards): Visa/Mastercard/Amex

visa $1000
MC $600 (my first card)
Amex $1000

I never asked for any increase, and they never gave me one... but I think I'll get an increase next month because I maxed out all my cards for x-mas presents and Now I'm stuck with using interac and cash.

I think they never increased my limit because I never have money in my bank accounts. and I don't have money in my bank accounts because I never deposit my cheques until I need the money. Yes, I know it's not exactly a logical way to store money... but I just do that for fun to trick people into thinking I'm a poor bum :)

11G on my primary Yahoo Visa..

Use it, pay it on time, they will raise the limit. The faster you pay your balances, the more they will raise the limit.

Visa: $4000 CAN; started off at $500 and I kept requesting increases over the years. None were denied and it is up to $4k now. None were offered though (hence the requests) even though my account has always been in excellent standing.
Mastercard: $2500 US; started off at $2500 a couple months back. Hopefully they'll raise without me having to ask!

My AMEX Blue gave me a $12,500 credit line. Dunno why it's that high, when my past cards had a max of $2500.

<< I often drive myself up to the limit then pay it back down. >>

That's exactly what they want, I did that once, and the next month it was raised $300.

my limit started at 1000 and is now 1300. I've only had it for 8 months or so, and I have only nearly maxed it that one time i got the increase.

I don't want any-more credit I'd be too tempted to use it....

Amazon NextCard - $3250. They increased it from $1000 to $3250 because I was maxing out my card and paying in full every month :Q

It's basically the only credit card I use now because I try to max it out every month so I can get more Amazon GCs. :D

I use my business card most of the time. It's AMEX and I have no limit that I know of.

I have a personal AMEX, if it has a limit, I've never reached it. For times that I can't use AMEX, I have a MasterCard. I've never seen a limit on it. I assume it's over $24,000 because that's the highest bill I've ever paid on it (used it to pay for the landscaping and such when I bought my house). The bills go directly to my accountant, and she pays them. She offered to do my personal finances for pretty cheap when I hired her for my business.

It's funny, but once you own your own business, credit limits on cards pretty much disappear. Credit limits on business expansions are a different story. I've never been turned down for loans on new stores, but I never went over my head, either.
