bull, visa has no 5000 dollar limit on credit cards, its up to the creditor. keep in mind visa is just a label it's not the credit card issuer.

$2800 on an originally $500 Visa I just got a year and a half ago.. I pay $50 a month, am never late on the payments and I often drive myself up to the limit then pay it back down.. my guess is they like that cuz they kept raising my limit..

Edit: Make that a $3200 limit Woot! :D they I just checked online and they raised it again.. I only have a balance of $800 left on it too..

$1500 with Capital One -VISA. Started at $500, but they bumped me up by a grand because I pay by balance IN FULL at the end of each month.

I have a Visa Gold w/ a $7000 limit and a MC Platinum w/ a $5500 limit (I think... maybe more, I'm not positive). Both have a zero balance, btw. I got them by having good credit. The first card I got, many moons ago, was a secured card. It's limit was determined by the amount of cash I deposited into their savings account ($200, if I recall correctly.)

But it's not necessarily a good thing to have credit cards with high limits in your wallet. Way too tempting to spend beyond your means.

Mastercard with $8500. I have no idea how it got that high. For a long time I hardly used it. Now I use it fairly often, but I never spent more than $1000 in a month, nor have I ever carried a balance over.
I've never asked for an increase, either....

I'll let you in on a secret.

the trick to get your limit higher is this:

get a card froma big bank like mbna or citibank. (i like mbna because of their website)

always use your card for everything you can, pay your bills on it, buy food on it, just make sure you have the cash to pay the whole thing off every month, no exceptions!

after 6 months apply for another credit card from the same bank i.e. mbna if you have a good history of using your card and paying large on time payments you should be approved.

here is the trick when they approve you, ask them to merge your credit lines, since the same bank is giving you these cards they have no problem just putting it on one card instead of two.

so if your credit limit was 1500 it is now 3000 or more.

to add to this trick do the following:

now that you have one 3k card goto to another bank so if you had a mastercard get a discover or amex (amex are kind of tight asses so i wouldnt do these tricks with them until your limit is above 10g) apply for a discover and they should give you a similar limit fill one card up to the brim and then request a balance transfer from one card to another, when you request they usually will raise your limit automatically, if they dont offer ask!

violia! now you have a card that has a 6k limit and one that has a 3k. after a few months of paying off your bills, (clean cards people!!! you dont want to pay the cc companies interest) call the one with a 3k limit and tell them that your other cards give you a 6k limit and you want them to raise your limit or you'll cancel the card, trust me they'll raise your limit.

now you have 2 cards with 6k limits, repeat adnaseum!

the two rules you must remember is this:

1) NEVER EVER BE LATE WITH A PAYMENT! if you are youve lost allcredibility with them and they will know immediatly when they pull up your account

2) ALWAYS ALWAYS MAKE A SIZABLE PAYMENT A MONTH, IN THE BAD CASE THAT YOU CANT CLEAR YOUR CARD, MAKE A BIG PAYMENT

GOOD CREDIT IS VERY IMPORTANT, LEARNING THE CREDIT GAME IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT.

Good Luck everyone.

BTW i have 3 cards all with 20K limits ( im not trying to brag just showing you this works) and im only 22 years old, only out of college for 5 months.

2700 on one, and ~5000 on another. I had to tell them to stop increasing it! =) Stupid paypal, made the companies think I was a big spender.

I started out as a 500 limit though, goes up real fast, especially if you max it out a few times. ;)

Got some outrageous offers (I think like 25000 limit or something insane like that).

BTW, they are both VISA

I don't know why you guys need so many credit cards. I only have 2, a VISA and a MC. Both Platinum with $15k limit. That's what they gave me when I applied. I've never carried a balance, no late payments. Oh, I've been paying my college tuition with my credit card for all the years I've been there. Good way to build up your credit that way. Imagine your bill statement for the month that is the start of a quarter. It's huge!
