82 during the day, off at night.

If energy was free and completely clean and/or renewable, I'd have no problem with people setting it on whatever they want. Since it isn't, I would happily vote for a law to limit the minimum. People running their AC below *70 are morons. Learn how to adjust or use fans.

*Apartments/condos and basements excluded because they are naturally easier to keep cool.

I don't have AC at home. I usually open all the windows at night and run fans in a few windows to turn the air around. Then I button everything up and draw the shades before I go to work. This keeps the upstairs below ~80 most of the time. The downstairs hardly ever gets hot.

I'll probably buy a window AC next year though since we have a baby coming.

No I believe they are referring to the ducts themselves sweating. Uninsulated duct work can easily run at sub dewpoint temps on the outside. It will sweat like a cold glass of pop or a toilet tank with a cold (well water) supply that does not have a tempering valve.

Sweating ducts aren't usually a problem in un-finished space but if they sweat above a plasterboard ceiling, for example; the result can be mold or water seep damage.

Sweating is what people do. Cold things condense water from the surrounding air on them. Everyone knows this. No, really they do.

If I mounted a ceiling fan on the floor do you think it would blow up?

tricky. Most fans come with levelling swivel head so you would need to overcome that with some custom fab.

You know ceiling fans can change direction they blow right?

Or am I going to hear a whoosh sound?

San Diego has been unusually cool all year. I have only tuned it on once.

One thing is for sure with a ceiling fan mounted on the floor...

It would be intrinsically safe to consume spaghetti in that room. :awe:

60.

not that it ever gets that cold... it's a window unit and it's not powerful enough for the room that it's in (at least not when it's in the 90's outside) so I just keep it set to max.

I originally bought this particular unit for my bedroom, which is smaller than my living room, but I gave my original living room AC to my parents back in May when they needed an AC in a rush for their guest room (random early heat wave + company visiting) and never bothered to reclaim it. when it came time to installing my own AC in July, I decided on my living room figuring that it'd be easier to sleep in my living room than it would be to live in my bedroom.

It's about 71 in the house right now. AC not needed. Open windows at night, close windows during the day. Sometimes, it even gets too cold during the night.

I think I just heard something fly over my head.

It was accompanied by the odor of tomato sauce.

80 during the day, 74 at night.

That way my compressor isn't running constantly.
